Old paper adds a vintage touch to your crafting project. You can use old paper to write poetry, invitations, bind a book, or do a project at school. Most papers can be made to look like parchment by using tea. This is sometimes called tea paper staining and you can do it within an hour with just a few ingredients available at home. This article will show you how to stain paper with tea

Steps

1. 

   Select paper. You can use any type of paper from notebook paper, scrapbook paper, white print paper. If the paper is thick, it will take longer to stain.

   Print or write text on paper before it stains. The process will make the paper shrink and no longer flat, and the ink will not be able to stick evenly on the paper.

   Crumble the paper into a circle and then smooth it flat. This will add a vignette to the paper as the wrinkles feel like parchment or homemade calf parchment. However, do not perform this step if you want to keep the paper flat in a craft project.

   Put the paper in a cookie sheet. Place the tray on a flat surface to prevent tea from forming in the lower corner.

   Place the baking tray in the center of the oven. Preheat oven to the lowest setting of about 95 ° C.

   Heat 2 cups (250ml) of water in the microwave, in the kitchen kettle, or the electric kettle. Fill the bowl with water when it is boiling.

   Add 3 to 5 black tea bags to the water to make the tea. The more tea bags you use, the darker the stain will be. Soak the tea bag for 5 to 20 minutes, then remove and start the paper stain.
   • The hotter the tea, the more orange it will produce. Many old parchment papers have a slightly orange-brown tone. Black tea with herbs and oranges will also create a hot tone.

   Use tea to stain paper in 1 of 3 ways:
   • Use a brush to spread the tea on the paper. Deliberately spreading the tea unevenly to make the paper look older.
   • Spread a tea bag on the paper. Make sure the tea bag you are using is no longer too hot before using it. Spread the tea bags on the paper so that some areas will be wetter than others. This will cause uneven streaks on the paper. If the tea bag breaks, throw it away and use another tea bag.
   • Directly pour tea water onto paper. Pour slowly and stop when the tea starts to stagnate. Make sure not to overflow the tea. Tilt the baking tray so that the entire sheet is evenly soaked with the tea. This is the best method if you want to process more than one paper at a time as the sheets can still absorb the tea water when stacked.

   Lift one edge of the paper to check if the tea is seeping into the back of the paper. If not, you will use tea to treat the paper again.

    Let it sit and wait for the tea to soak into the paper for at least 5 minutes. Blot stains of tea. If too much water collects in one place, the paper will leak during use.

    Scrub the outer edges of the paper. This will make the edges look frayed. You can also rub other areas of the paper if you want to make holes.

    Place the baking tray in the oven. Bake the paper for about 5 to 10 minutes. Remove the tray when the paper starts to shrink slightly.

    Remove the tray from the oven. Stake off the remaining edges on the baking sheet with a fork and spreader while the paper is still warm. Place the paper on a different surface to reduce heat.
    • You can also dry the tea soaked in paper. It takes about 45 minutes to dry each printed sheet. Be sure to use gravel or kitchen utensils on the edges so the paper does not curl.

1. 

   Prepare a few tea bags depending on the amount of paper. The general rule of thumb is to use one tea bag per sheet of paper.

   Take a cup of water, just enough to make the tea. That means you don't fill the cup with water or take too little water to prevent the tea bag from floating.

Advice

• If the dried paper gets too tight, you'll stick it between two heavy books throughout the night.
• You can replace the tea with coffee to make the stain darker and follow the same procedure above.
• To create a more stained effect, sprinkle some pre-made coffee powder around the paper after you've smeared the tea. Let the coffee stand for 2 minutes and then wipe it off with a paper towel.
• If the page you want to stain is part of your journal, use stencils to separate it from other pages. In addition, you should control the amount of tea water and then wipe off any excess tea with a paper towel.
• If the content is written in ink, you need to make sure the ink doesn't get smudged when it comes to water.
• Put old newspaper underneath while you work to avoid staining the interior of the house.
