WikiHow today teaches you how to view graphic card (also called video card) information on both types of devices, Windows and Mac.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On a Windows computer

1. 

   Right click on Start. This is the Windows logo in the lower left corner of the screen. A menu will pop up.
   • You can also press ⊞ Win+X If you don't see the above icon.
   • On a Windows 7 computer, open Start and type "Device Manager".
   • If you're using a laptop with a trackpad, tap it with two fingers instead of a right click.

   Click an option Device Manager is near the top of the pop-up menu.

   Click > on the left Display adapters (Display adapter). You will find options Display adapters near the top of the Device Manager page.

   Look right below the item Display adapters or "Video adapters" to find your graphics card. If you see two items here, it means your computer has a built-in graphics card in parallel with a discrete graphics card.
   • Usually, the built-in video card will be the same brand as the computer processor (example: Intel).
   • You can double-click the graphics card to view its properties, parameters, or drivers.

Method 2 of 2: On a Mac computer

1. 

   
   
   Click the apple-shaped Apple menu in the upper left corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.

2. 

   Click About This Mac (About this Mac). The option will be at the top of the drop-down menu.

3. 

   Click System Report (System Report). This action is at the bottom of the About This Mac window.

4. 

   Click ▼ to the left of the itemHardware (Hardware). This option is in the left pane of the System Report window.

5. 

   Click Graphics / Displays (Graphics / Display). Looking in the left pane, this option is in the middle of the group of options displayed below the heading Hardware.

   Look at the name of the graphics card on the top right-hand frame.
   • You can also see the video card specifications below its name.

Advice

• Graphics cards are also known as "video" cards.
• Most computers will give priority to the fastest or highest quality video card over built-in graphics.
