You cannot change the username associated with a Snapchat account. However, you can delete the old account and create a new one with a different username. Alternatively, you can change the display name, which is the name that friends and other users see when you send a Snap or chat with them.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Delete old Snapchat account

1. 

   Open the Snapchat app. The app is yellow with a ghost icon.

   From anywhere on the screen, swipe down. This will open the Snapchat account page.

3. 

   Press the button ⚙️. This button is located in the upper right corner of the screen to access the menu Settings (Setting).

   Scroll down and select support (Support). This button is located in the "More Information" section.

5. 

   Press the button My Account & Settings (Accounts & Settings). This is the last item on the screen.

   Press the button Account Information (Account information).

7. 

   Press the button Delete My Account (Delete the account). This button is in the middle of the menu. This is opening a page that explains how to delete an account.
   • If you want to change your username but don't want to delete your existing account, you can create a new one.

   Press the button page (Page). This button is in the second paragraph.

9. 

   Enter password. This will verify that you want to remove the account.
   • If the username is not entered automatically, enter it in the corresponding field yourself.

    Press the button tiếp tục (Continue). Snapchat accounts are deactivated and will be deleted after 30 days.
    • If you change your mind, you can reactivate your account by logging into Snapchat within 30 days of inactivity.
    • As of February 2017, there is no way to retrieve a list of friends from Snapchat. You can search for a contact by phone number on your device's Contacts app, but it is recommended that you screen capture your friends list before deleting your account.

Part 2 of 3: Create a new Snapchat account

1. 

   Open Snapchat. Yellow app with ghost icon.
   • Enter your username and password if you aren't automatically logged in.

2. 

   Swipe down from anywhere on the screen. This is the action of opening the user screen.

   Press the button ⚙️. This button is in the upper right corner of the screen, this is the button to access the menu Settings.

4. 

   Scroll down and select Log Out (Log out). This button is at the bottom of the menu.

5. 

   Press the button Sign Up (Registration). You will see instructions for creating a new Snapchat account.

6. 

   Enter your name. Enter first and last name in the corresponding field.

7. 

   Press the button Sign Up & Accept (Register & Accept). Enter your birthday when prompted and tap continue.

8. 

   Enter a new username. Choose the username you want to associate with your Snapchat account.

9. 

   Enter your email address. This email address must be different from the email address associated with the old Snapchat account.

10. 

    Follow the remaining on-screen instructions. From here, you can skip steps and add new or old friends from your contacts list.
    • After setting up your account, you can go back and change your email address and phone number in the menu Settings.
    • You can delete your old Snapchat account if you want, or let it work if you think you'll use it again one day.

Part 3 of 3: Rename Snapchat display

1. 

   Open Snapchat. The yellow app has a ghost icon.
   • Enter the username and password if the app doesn't log in automatically.

2. 

   Swipe down anywhere on the screen. This will open the Snapchat account page.

   Press the button ⚙️. This button is located in the upper right corner of the screen to open the menu Settings.

4. 

   Press the button Name (Name). This button is at the top of the menu.

5. 

   Enter a new display name. You can enter first name or both first and last name. Remember to choose a name so that your friends can easily recognize you.
   • If you choose not to use a display name, tap Remove Name (Name removed). Other users will only see your username, but if it is difficult for your friends to identify it, your friends will have difficulty finding you.

   Press the button Save (Save).

7. 

   Press the button Back (Come back). The button with an arrow icon is in the upper left corner of the screen. Users on Snapchat will now see a new display name when you send a snap or post a story. advertisement
