With Snapchat's "Lenses" feature, you can swap faces (Face Swap) with friends to create truly bizarre (Snap) pictures. You can also allow Snapchat to use other people's faces in photos stored on your device to swap faces with them, such as your favorite celebrity's face or a statue. .
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Directly swap faces with someone else
Update Snapchat to the latest version. To be able to take advantage of the latest face swapping features, you must be using the latest version of Snapchat. Face swapping is available in version 9.25.0.0, released in February 2016. You can update Snapchat through the app store of your device.
- For Android, open the Play Store app, tap ☰, and then "My apps". Search for Snapchat in the "Updates" section.
- For iOS, open the App Store, click the "Updates" tab, and look for the Snapchat name.
Face Snapchat's camera straight. Make sure you are in a well-lit place and that your entire face is clearly visible on the screen. You can use the front or rear camera.
Hold down your face until a wireframe appears. It will activate the Lens feature, allowing you to choose from a range of different effects to transform your face.
- Lens only works on Android 4.3+ devices and iPhones with iOS 7.0+. If the Lens does not appear, your device may not be compatible to use it.
Select the yellow Face Swap Lens effect. Go through all available Lenses until you get closer to the end of the selection. You should see a yellow Face Swap option near the bottom. It has two smileys with two arrows in the middle.- The purple Face Swap option will allow you to swap faces with images stored in the device. You can refer to the next section for more details.
Fix the faces in place of the two smileys. Face the camera so that your faces and that of the other person are both fixed in place with the two smileys on the screen. They will turn yellow when you are in the correct position, and then the faces of both of you will be automatically swapped.- Any movements you make will be shown on the swapped face. So when you open your mouth wide, the face of the other person that has been swapped into yours will also open. You can also use this method to get your friends to make a bad face that they wouldn't normally want to do!
- Many users believe that this feature also works for near-realistic faces, such as detailed statues. Try swapping your face for a statue or painting near you and see what happens!
Snap a photo with the face swapped out. Once your faces have been swapped, you can capture that Snap as you normally would. Select the circle button on the screen to take a photo, or press and hold to record the video.
Save and send your Snapshot to someone else. Now that you've captured your photo, you can edit it, save it, and send it to your friends.
- Click the Sticker, Text, and Pencil buttons to add stickers, text, and drawings to your Snap.
- Press the Send button to select the person you want to send the Snap to. After selecting a recipient, your photo will be sent.
- Press the "Add to My Story" button to add a Snap to your Story. This will allow your friends to see your photos for 24 hours.
- If you want to save the photo or video before sending it, click the Download button to save it to your device's photo library or photo storage. Saving images is optional.
Method 2 of 2: Swap faces with saved photos
You should make sure that your Snapchat app is the latest version. Snapchat needs to be updated to version 9.29.3.0 in order to use this new Lens feature. This update was released in April 2016 for both iOS and Android operating systems. You can check for updates in your device's app store.
The photo you want to swap faces needs to be available on your device. Snapchat will scan every image on your device and look for faces you can swap with. You will have the option to swap with these faces when choosing the Face Swap feature.
- You can use pictures taken by you as well as pictures that you have saved or downloaded from the internet. This feature will help you swap your face with a celebrity or fictional character, or with a friend who lives thousands of miles away.
Open Snapchat and fix your face. Your room should be well lit and your entire face should be clearly visible in the frame.
Press and hold the face. The wireframe will show up for a moment, and a bunch of different lenses will appear below the screen. Remember to hold your device steady when pressing on your face.
- Devices with old operating systems will not be able to use Lens. If the wireframe doesn't appear and the Lens isn't showing up, your device is probably not compatible to use them.
Select the Face Swap Lens effect. Move to the last position in the selection. You'll see a purple Face Swap option with a picture of a camera and a smiley face.
Allow Snapchat to access your images if asked. The Snapchat app will send you a notification asking for permission to access photos on your device. This is a necessary step for the filter to work. Select "OK" or "Allow" to let Snapchat scan all of your saved photos.
Select the face you want to swap with. You'll notice a bunch of face photos Snapchat has found in photos stored on your device. Clicking on a certain face will activate the swap process immediately. You cannot browse images on the device. Snapchat will scan your photo to find faces that can be used.
- Because you can use any photo available on the device, this feature will let you unleash your creativity.You can even use photos of cartoon characters, if they have enough details for Snapchat to recognize faces. For example, characters' faces in some video games will look real, and Snapchat can select them from photos stored on your phone.
- You can upload a photo of your favorite celebrity and swap faces with them easily with this effect. Try to find a photo that is taken head-on so that you can see the person's full face.
Take a Snap photo with the face of your choice. Once you have selected the face you want to use, you can film or take a photo as usual. Press the circle button on the screen to take a Snap photo, or press and hold to record a video. You can move the face and the transformed face will change as well.
Save and send Snap. After you've taken a Snap, you can edit it and send it to your friends.
- If you really like the Snap that you created with the swapped face, you can save it on your device before sending it so it won't disappear forever. Press the Download button to save the Snap.
- Tap the Sticker, Text, and Pencil buttons to add stickers, text, and drawings to your Snap photos or videos.
- Click the "Add to My Story" button to send your Snap to Snapchat Story. This will make your Snap viewable to your friends on your list for 24 hours.
- Press the Send button to select the friends you want to Snap.
