This wikiHow teaches you how to make calls to your phone from the Internet. The only program we can use to make free calls is Google Hangouts, but you can also use Skype if you have credit in your account.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Using Google Hangouts

1. 

   Open the Google Hangouts page. Go to https://hangouts.google.com/. The Personal Hangouts page will open if you're signed in with a Google account.
   • If you are not logged in, click Sign in (Login) in the top right corner of the page, enter your email address and click next (Next), enter your password and click Sign in.

   Click the icon Phone Call phone picture is in the middle of the page. The Phone section of Google Hangouts opens.
   • Most calls to phones in the US and Canada are free. If you want to call a phone in another country, you need to add billing information.

   Click New conversation (New conversation). This option is in the upper left of the page.

   Enter your phone number. Enter your phone number.

   Click the button Call (Call) is located below the phone number field. The registration page opens if you have not previously registered your phone number with Google Hangouts. In this case, you will be asked to verify a number:
   • Import phone number.
   • Click next (Continue).
   • Import Verification code.
   • Click Verify (Verification).
   • Click I accept (I agree).
   • Click Proceed (Proceed).

   Wait for the call to connect. The phone will ring for a few seconds after you click the button Call.
   • Note: the Hangouts number will show as "Unknown" on your phone. If you have set up unknown or restricted call barring, the phone will not ring.

Method 2 of 2: By Skype

1. 

   You need to make sure you have Skype credit. Unlike Google Hangouts, Skype does not support you to make free domestic calls from computer to phone. If your Skype account does not have credit for a few dollars, you'll need to top up before continuing.

   Open Skype web version. Visit https://web.skype.com/. The Skype page will open if you're signed in to Skype in your browser.
   • If you are not logged in, enter your Skype registered email address or phone number, click Sign in and enter the password to continue.
   • As of December 2017, Skype calling on the web version is no longer available in Firefox. You can use the Skype web calling feature using Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, and Safari.

   Click the dialer icon. This multi-dot grid icon is on the left side of the page, just below your name and the "Search Skype" search bar.

   Enter the country area code. Enter the mark +, followed by the country area code. For example, if you are calling your phone in the US, enter +1 come in.
   • If you don't know the country area code, click Choose country / region (Select your country / region) at the top of the page, then click the country name.

   Enter your phone number. Enter your phone number.

   Click the white phone handset icon on a blue background in the upper right of the page.

   Click Install Plugin (Install the plug-in) when prompted. This green button is in the center of the pop-up window.
   • If using Microsoft Edge, skip to "Waiting for calls to connect".

   Install Skype extensions. Click the button Add Extension (Add extensions) in green, then click Add extension when prompted. Skype Calling will be installed on the browser.

9. 

   Click Get Plugin (Get plug-in). This green button is in the middle of the page. The setup file will begin downloading to your computer.
   • Depending on your browser settings, you may need to confirm the download or choose where to save it before the file downloads.

10. 

    Double-click the setup file. Skype plug-in will be installed in the browser.

    Click the button Call green in the middle of the window. The call will be made.

12. 

    Wait for the call to connect. As long as you have enough credit in your account, the call will be connected in seconds. advertisement

Advice

• If you just want to find your iPhone and have Find My iPhone turned on on your device, you can make the phone ring from Apple's Find iPhone page.

Warning

• Stay away from sites that claim that they allow you to call any phone for free. The majority of these sites are often not callable and are also flooded with ads, so your phone number could be sold to advertisers or marketers.
