Are applications taking up too much space on your phone's internal storage? On older Android versions, you can move apps to SD memory card. But from Android 4.0 - 4.2, Google has removed this feature and we can NOT move the app. Although back in version 4.3, this feature is only available on select phones and must be authorized by the app developer. To see how to move apps if your phone allows it, see step 1 below.

Steps

  1. Open Settings. You can access the Settings section from your phone's home screen icon, app drawer or Menu button.

  2. Click Applications, Apps, or Application Manager. You may need to scroll down to find it. The optional labels will differ depending on the phone and the version you are using.

  3. Click Manage Applications. On Android 2.2, you need to tap this option to open the application list. If the version is later, the list will appear available.

  4. Choose an application. Tap the app you want to move to the SD card. Find and click the button that says "Move to SD Card". If the button is dimmed, you cannot move apps to the memory card. If you do not see this button, it is possible that the Android version and your phone do not support transferring apps to the SD card.
    • Remember that only applications that are specifically designated to allow migration to the memory card will this option be available.
  5. Download a third-party application. Apps such as Link2SD can be downloaded to quickly identify which apps move to the SD card, saving you time instead of checking each item. These apps can also move apps that aren't normally allowed to move, however, this sometimes causes the app to crash.
    • These programs will be more effective if your phone has been rooted (unlocked).
