Windows Aero is a graphics theme and was first introduced in Windows Vista. It creates transparent windows and adds effects to minimize and maximize those windows. Windows Aero is usually turned on by default, but if it is not, you can still activate it with a few clicks. If you find that Aero is causing problems with the performance of your system, you can disable some or all of its effects.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Activate Aero

1. Make sure your computer meets all requirements. Aero can put a little extra strain on your system, so it's important to make sure your computer meets the following requirements before turning it on. You can view your current hardware settings by pressing ⊞ Win+Pause.
   • 1-gigahertz (GHz) 32-bit (x86) processor or 1-GHz 64-bit (x64) processor
   • 1 GB or system memory
   • DirectX 9 graphics card with 128 MB memory
   • Windows Vista Home Premium or better (Home Basic and Starter do not support Aero)
2. Right click on your desktop.
3. Select "Personalize".
4. Click on the link "Window color and appearance".
5. Select "Windows Aero" from the list of schemes.
6. Click on .To apply.

Method 2 of 2: Enabling specific Aero effects

1. Open the Start menu.
2. Type.sysdm.cpland press↵ Enter.
3. Click on the tab.Advanced .
4. Press the button .Settings in the Performance Department.
5. Uncheck any effects you don't want to use. Turning off certain effects can help improve the performance of your system.
   • Disabling "Enable Clear Glass" will provide the biggest performance gain, but it's also one of the key features that makes Aero so unique.
   • You can select the option "Best performance" to turn off all Aero effects.
6. Click on .To apply after making your choices. You may have to wait for your changes to take effect.

Tips

• To use Windows Flip 3D, press ⊞ Win+Tab ↹, after which you add the Tab ↹ let go ⊞ Win pressed. You will now see all open windows arranged as a 3D list. Use the mouse wheel or the arrow keys to scroll. To open one of the windows, just click on its image.
• Other features are "Live Thumbnails". Place your mouse pointer over the window in the taskbar and a small "thumbnail" will appear in which the window is displayed, with possible animations.

Warnings

• Windows Vista Aero can sometimes slow down your system, especially the Clear Glass effect. Only use Aero if you really want to.
