No one wants to look like Snow White in the middle of summer (or winter), but that doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune on the tanning bed, or hide inside. You can just get a tan at home. It is very simple and can also be very relaxing. We give you some tips here:

To step

Method 1 of 3: Method 1: Backyard supplies

  1. Put on the smallest bikini or swimsuit you have. The smaller it is, the more of you can tan.
    • If your backyard is very private, you can also sunbathe naked. Nothing is more beautiful than a brown body without stripes!
  2. Provide entertainment. Bring a towel, some music, a book, sunglasses, a hat, a bottle of water, and a friend. The more you have to keep yourself busy, the longer you will want to stay there. It is very important that you stay hydrated as you will sweat a lot.
  3. Use sunscreen with at least SPF15. This gives you a safe and healthy color, and you can sit in the sun for longer without burning.
    • Do not use a cream with a factor lower than SPF15. Sunbathing for a long time without good protection against UV rays is very bad and the main cause of skin cancer.
    • Apply your sunscreen 20 minutes before you go out into the sun, and repeat it every hour or after you have been in the water. Even if your cream is waterproof.
  4. Use a nice chair with a good cushion for maximum comfort. Lying on the floor is very uncomfortable and not very relaxing.
    • Find a chair that lets your skin breathe and wicks away your sweat for the most comfort.
  5. Choose the correct time of the day. To avoid burning (which will prevent you from tanning evenly), don't go out in the sun during the most powerful hours - between 11am and 3pm. The less you wear, the more you should pay attention to this. The last thing you want is a burnt butt!
    • Go in the sun for 2-4 hours, reapplying your sunscreen every hour. If you get too hot, stand under the garden hose or jump into a pool.
  6. Repeat regularly. You don't get a golden glow in one day, but if you sit in the sun every day, you will have a beautiful color in a week.
  7. Maintain your tan. Once you get tanned like a goddess, keep your skin well hydrated to keep your tan for as long as possible.
    • An aloe vera-based moisturizer not only retains the tan, it also keeps your skin soft and moist, which can often be affected by tanning.

Method 2 of 3: Method 2: Fake color

  1. Go to a tanning salon - wise. It's not quite a home remedy, but it can amp up your backyard effort. The salons have a bad reputation for being easy to overdo. When you fall asleep in the sun, your friends usually wake you up. There is often no one around under the tanning bed and both sides are baked in one go.
    • Set a time. If the tanning bed has a timer, use it. If not, set your phone's timer or bring a travel alarm clock.
    • Go under the sunbed as short as possible, and do not set it to the highest setting.
  2. Prep your skin. With these precautions in mind, the tanning salon is a great way to get yourself ready for a sun vacation or fun in your backyard after a long winter without sun. It lets you build a base so that you burn less quickly - but still lubricate with at least SPF15 when you go outside.
    • Hold onto the base. Sunbathe in your backyard to keep up with your tan. Only go back to the tanning salon when the sun isn't shining for a while and just go outside.

Method 3 of 3: Method 3: Smear your tan

  1. Use a tanning cream. This is recommended as a last resort to get a tan at home. It's very easy and you can see the color appear immediately, but if you use cheap cream, or put on too much (or too little) it makes you look like a politician rather than a goddess.
    • Exfoliate your skin well before applying your tanning cream. If you discolor dead skin, it will wash away the next shower and make you look like a plucked chicken.
    • Use tanning cream with a visible color. This way you can see how much you are applying and you can stop before you look like a walking carrot.
    • Use it in moderation. Just like sitting in the real sun, it is best to apply several thin layers and not a thick layer in one go.
  2. Get professional help. In some tanning salons you can be sprayed brown. It won't stay on for long - just a few days - but it's easy and relatively safe.

Tips

  • Do not forget to drink enough water.
  • Lie the same length on both sides: you don't want to look uneven!
  • It is best to lie by a pool or other water. The water reflects the sun's rays, causing more rays to hit you. Be careful, because this also burns you faster.
  • Your skin needs to get used to sun exposure if you've been indoors all winter. Start with 5 minutes and build it up.
  • Make it a party! Invite your friends for a day of baking! Even if you are a boy!
  • If you don't have an easy chair, you can also take some cushions to sit on and lean against. Keep a bottle of water and book close at hand.
  • If you feel your skin burning, it probably is! Take a 5 minute break or apply more sunscreen.

Warnings

  • Pay close attention that sensitive parts of your skin, such as your face, ears and other parts that hardly ever see the sun (i.e. where normal clothing is covered) are much more sensitive. If you know these parts will be exposed to the sun, protect them by a higher factor than the rest. You can also cover your body and ears with a hat.
  • Repeated heavy tanning - even if you don't get skin cancer - will age the skin prematurely, making you look more like an old leather jacket than a movie star.
  • There is no 100% safe tanning. By lying in the sun you increase the risk of skin cancer.
  • Do not stay in the sun too long or you will burn!
