Slime making is the latest crafting trend, and there are countless videos on the Internet teaching children and adults to make colorful, glittering and even edible slime. It's fun until you get slime on your clothes. Easily remove the slime from your clothes with vinegar or use detergent for more stubborn stains.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Scrub with vinegar

  1. Pour a small amount of vinegar onto the mucous stain on your clothes. With distilled white vinegar from the pantry, you will be able to remove the slime. Use enough vinegar to soak the area completely.
    • Do this in the sink to avoid making a mess.
    • The faster you remove the slime, the better. The more the mucus dries and hardens, the more difficult it is to remove.
    • If you don't have vinegar, use rubbing alcohol.

Tip: an ice cube can help to remove caked-on mucus. Rub the area with the ice before soaking it with vinegar. The slime will freeze and harden for easier removal.

  2. Rub dish soap into the stain to remove any last residue of mucus. If the fabric is still sticking to the slime, squeeze a few drops of dish soap on the area. Rub the fabric together to massage the detergent into the stain.
    • You can use all brands of liquid dish soap for this.
    • This step also helps get some of the vinegar scent out of the fabric.
    • Rinse the detergent from the fabric if you want to put the garment on without putting it in the washing machine first.
  3. Wash the garment according to the instructions on the care label. If the garment is machine washable, put it in the washing machine. If it needs to be dry cleaned, take it to the dry cleaner. If it needs to be hand washed, do it now. First read the instructions on the care label in the garment.
    • If you've only wet a small area and want to wear the garment right away, pat it dry with a clean towel.

Method 2 of 2: Wash away slime in the washing machine

  1. Let the garment soak in the water for half an hour. First, check the care label to make sure that the garment can withstand soaking. Feel free to stir the garment into the water from time to time during the soaking process.
    • Set a kitchen timer so you know when half an hour has passed.
    • The garment will not be damaged if you soak it for more than half an hour. To remove a stubborn stain, you may want to let the garment soak longer.
  2. Dry the garment according to the instructions on the care label. Check the care label in the garment to determine the best drying method. Some items of clothing can be tumble-dried, while more delicate items should be line-dried. If you are unsure, the safest option is to hang the garment on the clothesline to dry.
    • Garments made of silk, wool, or with decorations should usually not be tumble-dried.
