Pastillas, or pastillas de leche, is a sweet treat that is eaten for dessert in the Philippines. You can make this dessert without cooking, or you can make a version that you do have to cook. If you want to know how to make pastillas, read on at Step 1.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams of powdered milk
  • 1 can (400 ml) of condensed milk
  • 90 grams of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of margarine or butter

To step

Method 1 of 2: Make pastillas without cooking

  1. Put the powdered milk and the condensed milk in a bowl. This recipe is enough for 80 candies.
  2. Mix the powdered milk and the condensed milk. The mixture can be a bit thick and difficult to stir, so be patient and use a sturdy spoon.
  3. Add the margarine to the mixture. You can also use real butter for an extra creamy taste. Mix it with the other ingredients.
  4. Make candies by forming balls or rolls. Choose the shape you want; they can become round, or more like a roll. Use your hands and shape them; you can put on gloves if you want. Place the candies on a plate.
  5. Sprinkle the sugar on a baking tray.
  6. Roll the pastillas in the sugar. Make sure everything is covered.
  7. Wrap the pastillas in cellophane. You can cut the papers to size in advance. Place the candies on the papers and twist the ends together.
  8. Serve. Place the candies on a nice plate and enjoy. You can eat them for dessert or just in between.

Method 2 of 2: Cooking pastillas

  1. Mix the powdered milk, condensed milk and sugar in a saucepan. Stir it well so that it becomes a paste.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. Add the butter. Keep stirring and mix all the ingredients.
  4. Get it off the heat. Remove the pan from the stove and pour the mixture into a bowl. Let it cool for at least 5-10 minutes. You should be able to touch it, but it should still be warm.
  5. Shape the mixture. Make bite-sized pieces with your hands or a knife. You can make balls, rolls, cubes, or whatever you want. You can make about 80 pieces.
  6. Roll the candies through the sugar. Make sure every piece is completely covered with sugar.
  7. Wrap the candies in cellophane. Place a candy on a piece of cellophane and wrap it in it.
  8. Serve. Enjoy these delicious sweets at any time of the day.
