Riding on horseback is one of the fastest ways to move around the world of Minecraft. Once you find a horse, all you have to do is right click on the horse and keep trying to ride the animal until it gives up. Read this article to use it as a mount, pack animal or to breed more horses.

Method 1 of 3: Taming horses on a computer or console

1. Find a saddle (optional). You don't necessarily need a saddle for taming a horse. However, you do need a saddle to be able to ride a horse ride a after you've tamed it. If you skip this step, you can still carry the horse by the reins and breed with it, and sit on the horse's back (without being able to control it).
   • Saddles cannot be manufactured. You can find them in the available treasure chests or by trading them with villagers. You can also find them by fishing for them, but they only show up in 1 out of 120 cases you try with a regular fishing rod.
2. Find a horse. Horses only appear on the savannah or on plains. These biomes are mostly flat, grassy areas with a few scattered trees. Horses come in a variety of colors and have slightly varying patterns as well.
   • Donkeys can be found in the same locations. They are smaller than horses and have longer ears.They tamed the same way, but there are other differences that are explained in detail below.
3. The interaction with the horse proceeds with an empty hand. Select a blank spot on your menu so that you no more hold. Right-click on the horse to sit on the back of the animal.
   • On consoles, use the standard controls for interacting with objects.
4. Repeat this until the horse has been tamed. The first time you try to ride a horse, it will almost always buck and throw you off its back. Just keep trying; every time your chance of success will increase. Eventually, a swarm of hearts will appear around the horse. This means it has been tamed.    • You have about a 5% chance that you will be able to tame the horse on your second attempt, and you can usually do it within six tries. However, you may not be so lucky and have to make several tries.
5. Feed the horse to increase your chances of taming it. This is usually not necessary, but try it if the horse keeps throwing you away and you get frustrated. Hold the food in your hand and right click on the horse. This will deplete your food supply, but will make it easier to tame the horse.
   • Any amount of sugar, apples, and wheat will help a little, adding another 3% to your odds.
   • Golden carrots add another 5% chance and golden apples 10% chance. However, you could save this for the stud as described below.

Method 2 of 3: Using the horse

1. Saddle the horse. Hold the saddle and right click on the horse to saddle it. When riding a saddled horse (or donkey), you can move with the usual buttons.
   • Horses can jump much higher and further than your character. Hold the jump button to charge the horse for a bigger jump.
   • To dismount, press the left Shift key on a computer or the right button on a console.
2. Lead the horse around. Use the reins (reins) on the horse to attach it to your hand. The horse will now follow you everywhere. Hold the horse and use the reins to tie the animal to a fence. If you want to disconnect the reins without attaching the horse to anything, use the reins a second time on the horse.
   • Reins are made by hunting and killing slimes underground or in dark swamps to obtain slime balls. Make reins by placing a slime ball in the center of the workbench, then place a thread in the top left, center left, center left, and bottom right squares (kill spiders to get thread).
3. Let your horses and donkeys rest. The main difference between horses and donkeys is what you can load on them. While riding the animal, open the inventory to see the slots with their equipment:
   • Horses can wear armor to protect them from damage. You need special armor for a horse, which can only be found in treasure chests or by trading with villagers.
   • Donkeys can carry a box where you can store items as usual.
4. Breed horses. Enter two horses close together with golden apples or carrots gold. They will approach each other and a foal will appear. The foal cannot be tamed until it has grown up, which takes about twenty minutes. You can accelerate growth by feeding with food that is not gold.
   • Make a golden apple by placing it in the center of the work grid and then place eight golden blocks around it.
   • Create a golden carrot with a carrot in the middle, surrounded by gold nuggets.
   • A horse and donkey make a mule together. Mules carry chests like donkeys do, but cannot mix with other animals.

Method 3 of 3: Horses tamed in Minecraft Pocket Edition

1. Install a horse mod. Horses do not exist in the current version of Minecraft PE, although they may be added in a future update. If you haven't done so before, learn how to install mods with this guide. (Note that this may be difficult or impossible in some versions of iOS). You can search for horse mods yourself, or download the "Horses" mods made by Argll or Bernard.
   • Download mods at your own risk. They can contain viruses that infect your mobile. The above examples have worked for some users, but this is not a guarantee that they are safe.
2. Download texture packs. If your horses are all black or look like cows, you will also need to download a texture pack. Check the website where you downloaded the mod and look for a link to a texture pack. Once you have downloaded Minecraft you start again to see horses in color.
3. Find out how to tame the horses. Since every mod is created by users, there is no standard way to tame horses. Some mods do you feed oats to the horse to tame. In others, there is simply interaction with the horse with an empty hand. The creator of the mod usually has this information somewhere on their website.

Tips

• Each horse has a randomly determined health, speed and jump distance. If you breed horses, the foal's character will usually consist of an average of that of its parents.
• Horses heal on their own over time. You can speed this up by feeding them more regular food (not golden food), or by leaving them near hay stacks when you are not riding a horse.
• If you have cheats enabled in your Minecraft game, you can use cheat commands to summon special horses. This includes his zombie and skeleton horses, which do not appear in regular games.

Warnings

• The console version of Minecraft has a bug that can cause horses disappear committed. Remove saddles, armor and chests from the horses as you lead them back to the bead, otherwise these items may disappear along with the horses.
