In this article you can read how to change your password on a smartphone with Android, or on an iPhone or an iPad. If you are already logged in to Instagram and you know your current password, you can easily create a new password within your settings. Even if you are unable to log in to Instagram, you have a few options: You can change your password using your Instagram linked Facebook account (this is only possible in Android) or you can link to your email. e-mail address or to a telephone number where you can receive text messages, with the help of which you can change your password.

Method 1 of 3: Recover a forgotten password on an Android smartphone

1. Open Instagram on your Android phone. It's that pink, orange, yellow and white icon that looks a bit like a camera than you usually find in the app drawer. If you don't remember your Instagram password, you can usually get it back from the app's login screen.
2. Tap on Get help logging in. You can find this button under the button "Login" or "Register".
3. Choose a method to change your password. You can recover your password in three ways:
   • To use your username or email: As long as you have access to the email address associated with your Instagram account, you can use this option to receive a link to change your password.
   • Send an SMS: If your Instagram account is linked to the number of this same smartphone with Android, use this option to send yourself a link by text message that will allow you to recover your password.
   • Log in with Facebook: If your Instagram account is linked to your Facebook account, you can recover your password by logging in via Facebook. This only works if you remember your Facebook account password. If you have multiple accounts on Instagram that are all linked to the same Facebook account, "Restore with Facebook" will restore the password of the account you last connected to.
4. Enter the requested information in Instagram. You must have access to the email address or phone number associated with the account for these options to work. If you are going to take the Facebook route, log in to your Facebook account to confirm your identity, then follow the onscreen instructions to reset your password.
5. Follow the link to recover your password. When you got the text message or email with the link, tap the link to open the page and create a new password. Once you have confirmed your new password, you can immediately use it to log in.
   • If you don't have access to your email address or your phone number, try to access your old email address again if possible. If you've forgotten the password for that address, you can usually change it by visiting the provider's website or by calling for assistance.
   • If you still can't access Instagram, try sending a request for help. To do that, try logging in with the last email address or phone number you can remember, tap Forgot your password? and then on Need more help? to access the help form.

Method 2 of 3: Recover a forgotten password on an iPhone or iPad

1. Open Instagram on your iPhone or tablet. If you forgot your Instagram password, you can usually change it from the Instagram login screen.
2. Tap on Forgot your password on the login screen. This is just above the "Login" button, or "Register".
3. Tap on User name or on Phone. If you want to recover your password using a link sent to the email address associated with your account, select User name. If you'd rather receive a text message with the link, select Phone.
4. Enter the requested information and tap Send login link. If you User name then enter the username you use for Instagram or the email address associated with your account. If you have the option Phone , enter the phone number associated with your account.
5. Open the link in the email or text message. After a few minutes you should receive a text message or an email from Instagram with a link to create a new password. Enter your new password in the available space and confirm it by typing it again.
   • If you cannot access your email address or your phone number, try to access your old email address again if possible. If you don't remember its password, you can usually change it by going to the provider's website or by calling for help.
   • If you still can't access Instagram, please submit a request for help. Try to do that in the last email address or phone number you can remember, tap Forgot your password? and then on Need more help? to access the help form.

Method 3 of 3: Change your password if you know it

1. Open Instagram on your smartphone or tablet. If you are already signed in to Instagram and you know your current password, you can easily change it within your settings.
2. Tap the Profile icon. To do this, tap the icon in the shape of a head at the bottom right of the Instagram page.
3. Tap the menu in the top right corner. On an iPhone / iPad they are three horizontal bars, and on a smartphone with Android it is shaped like a gear.
4. Tap on Settings. This button is at the top of the menu.
5. Tap on Security. To do this, tap the screen with the check mark on it.
6. Tap on password. To do this, tap the icon in the shape of a key at the top of the menu.
7. Enter your current password. You must enter your current password in the "Current Password" field without fail before you can create a new password.
8. Create a new password. Enter your new password in the "New password" field, then in the "New password, again" field.
9. Tap on Save or the check mark to save the password. You will see one of these options in the top right corner of the screen. Once Instagram has accepted your new password, you can use it to log in to Instagram.

Tips

• When choosing a new password, make sure it is at least eight characters long and consists of a combination of letters, numbers and symbols.
• If you have a new email address, change your address in Instagram immediately. Go to your profile, tap Change profile and enter your new email address in the "Email" field.
