Logging into your Netgear router gives you the ability to change your router's default username and password, adjust your network preferences, tighten security, and activate features such as parental controls. The default login credentials are all the same for any Netgear router.

To step

Part 1 of 2: Logging into your Netgear router

  1. Find the sticker on the bottom of your Netgear router with the default login information. Most Netgear routers are labeled with the default access address, as well as the default username and password.
  2. Open a browser on your computer and go to: http://routerlogin.net.
    • Try http://www.routerlogin.com, http://192.168.0.1, or http://192.168.1.1 if the URL ending in .net does not display a page with login fields.
    • If you are not wirelessly connected to your router, use an ethernet cable to make a direct connection between your computer and the router.
  3. Type "admin" in the username field and then "password" in the password field. These are the default login credentials for Netgear routers.
    • If the default login information does not work, the username and password may have been changed and different from the default information. Continue with Part Two of this article and follow the steps outlined there to restore your Netgear router to its default settings as outlined in Step 1.
  4. Click "OK" after entering the login details. You are now logged in to your router and can change settings as desired.

Part 2 of 2: Troubleshooting logging into the Netgear

  1. Reset your Netgear router if the default login details do not work. Resetting your router will restore the original factory settings, as well as resetting the username and password.
    • Turn your router back on and look for the "Restore Factory Settings" button on the back of your router.
    • Use a pen or paperclip to press and hold the "Restore Factory Settings" button for at least seven seconds, until the Power lights start blinking.
    • Release the button and wait for the router to reboot. The Power light will stop blinking and turn green or white.
    • Repeat steps 2 through 4 from Part 1 to log in to your Netgear router.
  2. If you are unable to log in to your router, use a different Ethernet cable or Ethernet port on the router. In some cases, a damaged Ethernet cable or port can prevent you from accessing the router's settings.
  3. If you still can't get to your Netgear router's admin page, try changing your computer's IP address. In some cases, updating or changing your IP address can help establish a connection between your computer and the router. Read articles on wikiHow to reset your IP address on any computer with Windows or Mac OS X.
  4. If you are unable to log in to your Netgear router, disable any firewalls or pop-up blockers on your computer. Since Netgear routers use JavaScript in their web interface, a firewall and pop-up blockers can prevent you from accessing the admin page.
    • Read articles on wikiHow to disable the firewall on your computer, and follow these steps to disable pop-up blockers in the browser you use to log into your Netgear router.
