You can protect your email account against hackers and identity fraud by regularly changing your password. If you change your password, choose a new and strong password that you will not use for another account, and that contains at least 8 characters with letters, numbers and symbols. To make your password even more secure, it is best not to include information in your password that you often share with others - such as your birthday, phone number, or the name of your pet or child.

Method 1 of 3: Gmail

1. Log in to Gmail with your Gmail account. You can only change your password on the Gmail website; not in the mobile app.
   • If you want to reset your password because you cannot access your account, click here.
2. Click the gear button and select "Settings".
3. Click on the "Accounts and Imports" tab.
4. Click on the link "Change password".
5. First enter your current password, and then your new password. You have to type your password twice to confirm it.

6. Click on "Change password" to save your new password.
   • Your Gmail password is the same for all Google services, such as Drive, YouTube, and Hangouts. If you are signed in to other Google services, for example on your phone, you will be asked to sign in again with your new password.
7. Set up your email program (if necessary). If you use Outlook or another email program to manage your Gmail account, you will also need to change the password in Outlook. Click here for instructions.

Method 2 of 3: Yahoo! Mail

1. Log in to the Yahoo!Mail with your Yahoo! account. account.
   • If you want to reset your password because you don't have access to your account, click here for instructions.
2. Move your cursor over the gear icon and select "Account Information".
3. Click the "Account Security" tab on the left.
4. Click on "Change password".
5. Enter your new password. You have to type your password twice to confirm it.

6. Click on "Continue" to save your new password.
   • Your password for Yahoo! Mail is the same for all Yahoo! products, such as Yahoo! Messenger and Yahoo! Finance.
7. Set up your email program (if necessary). If you use Outlook or another email program to manage your Yahoo! account, you will also need to change the password in Outlook. Click here for instructions.

Method 3 of 3: Outlook.com (Hotmail)

1. Log in to the Outlook.com website with your Microsoft or Hotmail account. Outlook.com is the new name of Hotmail.
   • If you want to reset your password because you cannot access your account, click here.
2. Click on your account name in the top right corner. This is usually your real name.
3. Select "Account Settings". You will now have to enter your password again.
4. Click the "Change Password" link in the "Security & Privacy" section.
5. Select an option for how you want to receive your security code.

6. Click on "Send code".
   • Your Outlook.com password is the same for all products associated with that Microsoft account, such as Windows 8, Xbox Live, and Skype.
