If you've ever gotten into a fight, you've probably worried about a lot of things. "Is the attacker in a combat sport?" "Is the attacker hiding a weapon?" There is something that many people worry about in such situations. "Are my attacks powerful enough to end the fight quickly and in my favor?" Believe it or not, some people have nightmares about fights where their lashings are not even noticed by the opponent. So it is wise to make your punches as powerful as possible. This is what you can do.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Learn to master the punching technique

  1. Master the technique to hit harder. Have you ever seen golfers with crappy technique take a great tee? Have you ever seen a professional baseball player hit thunderous home runs with poor technique? Do you ever see swimmers sliding through the water at lightning speed with poor technique? No, neither do we. Proper punching technique will not only make your punches harder, but also more efficient, meaning less energy is needed for a heavier punch.
  2. Learn fighting techniques from other disciplines. Boxing and martial arts are great for learning to move faster, and for becoming more flexible and stronger.

Method 2 of 3: Strengthen your muscles

  1. One way to increase your punching power is to use a heavy punching bag. Not so heavy that you don't have any knuckles left after the workout, but also not so light that you blow the bag away with the first punch. It is one of those situations where the following applies: not too much, not too little, just enough. EXPERT TIP

If you have a punching bag, you can train with it. Use the above tips to improve your technique and practice on the punching bag. Don't forget to use your hips to make your strokes more powerful.

  2. Start training with light dumbbells. Do not use dumbbells that challenge you to lift. Start with 2.5 or 5 pounds, or maybe 7.5 if you often train with weights.
  3. Use all kinds of boxing techniques to practice. For example: right direct, uppercuts, jabs and hooks.

Tips

  • With the dumbbells you can increase the weight if the workout is not heavy enough. If you can shadow box with weights of 5 or 7.5 pounds in each hand, and that's not much of a workout for you, you can probably knock someone's teeth out of their mouth with one blow. Increasing the weight is therefore not really necessary, unless you want to punch a hole in an armored vehicle.
  • If you go swimming, try practicing some thrusts underwater. You will notice that your strokes gradually get faster and harder.
  • Make sure to stretch and warm up relevant muscles beforehand to avoid straining or spraining a muscle.
  • Don't tighten your fist until the last minute.

Warnings

  • Know your own powers. You will be able to hit harder, so don't spar with your friends with the same strength as you did before, otherwise you will get injured and you will have one or more fewer friends.
  • Remember: Save nowhere against it with dumbbells in your hand.
  • Don't forget about your arm not stretching all the way, as doing so can seriously damage your elbows.
  • Hold the dumbbells tight enough so they don't fly out of your hand and into that expensive Chinese vase when you lash out. Use gloves if your hands are too sweaty to keep the dumbbell from slipping out of your hand due to the sweat.
