Most browsers set their default search engine to Google. However, malware on your computer or certain add-ons and extensions can replace this default search engine with its own search engine. If you are using Internet Explorer, you may want to consider switching from Bing to Google. See step 1 below to learn how.

Method 1 of 7: Internet Explorer

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click on the gear icon in the top right corner of your browser. If no gear icon can be found, click the Tools menu.
  3. Click on "Manage Add-ons".
  4. Select "Search engines".
  5. Select "Google".
  6. Click on "Set as default search engine".
    • If Google is not available, click on "Find more search engines" in the lower left corner.
    • Choose Google from the dialog box.
    • Click on "Add".
    • Click on "Close".

Method 2 of 7: Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Find the search bar. This is located to the right of the address bar at the top of the screen. Click on the small down arrow on the left of the search bar.
  3. Select the option "Manage search engines ..." from the drop-down menu.
  4. Select Google. Drag it to the top of the search engines list.
    • You can select Google and click the "Move up" option until Google is the top search engine.
    • If Google is not in the list, choose the option "Restore defaults". Google should now appear.
  5. Click on "Okay".

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click on the Google Chrome menu.
  3. Click on "Settings" (near the bottom of the selection menu).
  4. Find the search section.
  5. Select Google.

  6. Return to the main Safari screen by tapping the Safari button in the top left corner of your screen.

  1. Open the browser. Most Android devices use Chrome as a browser. Tap the menu button.
  2. Go to Settings".
  3. Find and tap "Search engine" or "Set home page"
  4. Choose Google by tapping on it.

Tips

  • If your search engine keeps changing to a different one, even after you put it back on Google, malware may be responsible for this. Try to remove it from your computer.
