If you do not fold or roll a tortilla properly, the ingredients may fall out. There are several ways to properly fold or roll a tortilla. The most important thing is to seal the openings with other parts of the tortilla.
Ingredients
For 1 person
- 1 tortilla
- 30 ml to 375 ml of filling of your choice
To step
Part 1 of 7: Preparing the tortilla
Heat the tortilla. Before adding the filling, the tortilla needs to be warmed up in the oven, over the gas stove or in the microwave. A warm tortilla is less likely to break than a cold tortilla.
- To heat a tortilla in the oven, put the tortilla in a preheated oven at 190 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. You can heat up to eight tortillas at once on a sheet of aluminum foil.
- To heat a tortilla with a gas stove, put a gas burner on high heat. Grab a tortilla with heat resistant tongs and hold the tortilla over the heat for a few seconds, heat both sides. The tortilla is ready when it softens and browns a little.
- You can reheat tortillas in the microwave by wrapping them in a clean, slightly damp tea towel (or paper towel), up to eight at a time. Set the microwave on the highest setting and heat them up for 30 to 45 seconds.
Serve the tortilla. You now have a stable tortilla that is ready to be served. If desired, you can secure the tortilla with toothpicks.
Part 3 of 7: Envelope roll
Serve the tortilla. Now you can serve and eat the tortilla without any problems. You can even cut it in half without the tortilla falling apart completely.
- If it still feels a little loose, you can insert a few toothpicks to hold the tortilla in place.
Part 4 of 7: Cylinder roll
Serve the tortilla. With this method it is nice to cut the tortilla diagonally into three parts.
- You can also make smaller bites by dividing the tortilla into four to six pieces.
Part 5 of 7: Roll consisting of two folds
Serve the tortilla. The tortilla can be eaten like this. You can secure the tortilla with toothpicks if it still seems loose.
Part 6 of 7: Cornucopia role
Serve the tortilla. The tortilla cones can be eaten like this. You can optionally secure them with toothpicks if it still seems to be loose.
Part 7 of 7: Half moon fold
Serve the tortillas. The filled tortilla is ready to be eaten.
- With quesadillas, it is a good idea to cut the folded tortilla into quarters. Each cut starts at the center of the folded edge and moves to the open edges.
- The tortillas should not be too thick, but if they are, you can secure them with a toothpick before serving.
