Shuffling a deck is usually the first step to playing a deck. There are several ways to shuffle cards, from a simple overhand shuffle to the more advanced hindu shuffle or riffle shuffle. If you want to know how to shuffle a deck like a pro, just follow these easy steps.

Method 1 of 3: Overhand shuffle

1. Hold the deck horizontally in your dominant hand. Place your little finger, ring, and middle finger on the side of the cards facing away from you and place your thumb on the end of the cards closest to you. Use your index finger as a support at the top.
2. Hold the end of the stack with your thumb and middle finger. Place your thumb and middle finger on either side of the long side of the stack. You can place your index finger lightly on the stack for extra support.
3. Take both halves of the stack. Each hand must follow the same position. To grab each half of the stack, place your thumb over the top edge and use your middle and ring fingers to support the bottom edge. Place your little finger on the back edge of the stack. Your index finger can reach the leading edge of the stack or it can float above the stack for support.
4. Repeat the riffle shuffle (optional). If you want to shake the stack even more thoroughly, repeat the entire process one more time.
