SD cards have a mechanical slide that can prevent anything from being saved. This can be very good as a security, but often it eventually breaks. Fortunately, you can repair the SD card for almost nothing in a matter of minutes.

To step

1. Find the slot. Find the place where the slider used to be. The slider is usually on the left corner of the SD card when viewed from the front.
2. Remove any remaining pieces from the slide. If you can still see a piece of plastic from the old slide, cut it off with nail scissors.
3. Take some clear tape. You need thin, clear tape that sticks well. Scotch Brand is good, but any other brand is fine as long as it sticks well. Make sure the roll is not too wide. 1-1.5 cm is the standard.
4. Remove a piece of tape from the roll. Remove a small piece of tape from the roll. Take a piece of about 1-1.5 cm so that you have a square piece of tape.
5. Attach the adhesive tape to the slit. The tape should be attached to both the front and back of the SD card to create a smooth surface that matches the edge at the slot. Push the tape together well so that there are no wrinkles or bumps in it.
   • Make sure the contacts on the back of the SD card are not covered with adhesive tape, otherwise you will not be able to read the card.
   • If there are bumps or thick edges in the tape, you may not be able to get the SD card into the slot of your computer or camera.
6. Insert the card into your device or card reader. Now the SD card should be unlocked again. If it is still locked, make sure the tape forms a smooth surface on the edge of the slot where the slider was.

Tips

• This method also works with old-fashioned floppy discs, if you are still using them.
