Minecraft is a Lego-style RPG (Role Playing Game) where you can break and build blocks to protect yourself from monsters. At this time it is not possible to open or hatch the dragon egg in Minecraft. It is intended as a trophy after the player kills the Ender dragon. However, there is a way to make a dragon your pet and saddle it up, then take it to the skies - but to do this you need a mod. A mod is a change to the in-game code to make it work differently from the original version. Essentially, you change the game's default code with it.

Part 1 of 2: Installing the mod

1. Install Forge. Forge is a modLoader used by many players (when working with mods). For the dragon egg mod to work, you will first need to download and install Forge.
   • At this time, Forge requires Minecraft version 1.7.2. The installer will not work if you have a higher version of Minecraft.
2. Download the mod. After installing Forge you can download the mod. There are two suitable versions, 1.7.2 and 1.6.x.
   • Click on the link for the download and save it to your computer.
   • After downloading, place the zip file in the mod folder of the minecraft directory, which can be found in the following location:

     ~ / .minecraft for Linux
3. Start the game. After installing and placing the zip file in the mod folder, start your game as normal. You can use either Creative mode or Survival, whichever you prefer.
   • If you play in Survival, you must first defeat dragon Ender to get the egg.

Part 2 of 2: Hatching your house dragon

1. Hatch the egg. In the old version of the mod you were required to heat the egg, by placing it in the center of magma, but this has recently been changed so that you can now place the egg block on the ground, then use it with the right click on it. The egg will hatch and the dragon will appear.
2. Tame the dragon. Use raw fish to tame the dragon. The dragon has been modified to act as a pet in Minecraft. They will follow you, protect you and even sit down if you hold out a bone.
   • Like a pet, dragons are vulnerable to damage, but you can heal them by feeding them raw fish and poultry.
3. Saddle your dragon. If you want to ride the dragon, you will have to saddle up the animal. Saddles are rare in the game and cannot be crafted, but you can find them in dungeons, chests, mines and even by purchasing one from a villager.
   • Keep in mind that you have to tame the dragon before you can saddle up the animal.
4. Ride your dragon. Right click your saddled pet to ride the animal.
   • Unfortunately, the only way to descend is by right-clicking the dragon, which will cause you and your pet to plummet. It is still unclear whether the modders intend to change this or leave it as it is.
