It is quite easy to send a self-addressed and stamped envelope. You only need two envelopes, stamps and writing materials. Make sure you have the correct address to send the envelope to. After sending the envelope, check the letterbox regularly to see if you have already received an answer.

To step

Part 1 of 2: Preparing the first envelope

  1. Find an envelope. Get an envelope large enough for what the recipient will be returning to you.
    • For example, if you are sending a self-addressed postage prepaid envelope to get a free CD from your favorite band, use an envelope large enough to hold a CD.
  2. Write your address in the center of the envelope. Write your first and last name on the top line, your street and house number on the next line and your zip code and city on the third line.
  3. Stick a stamp in the top right corner of the envelope. This stamp covers the shipping costs incurred by the recipient to return the envelope to you. If you send a self-addressed postage prepaid envelope to another country, make sure you use the correct stamps. Check the PostNL website or call them if you are not sure which stamps to use.
  4. Do not seal the first envelope. The recipient must be able to put something in it and return the mail item to you.

Part 2 of 2: Sending the envelope

  1. Get a second envelope that is larger than the first envelope. You send the first envelope in the second envelope.
  2. Write the recipient's address in the center of the envelope. This is the address where your envelope will be sent. Write the name of the recipient or company on the top line, followed by the street name and number on the second line and the zip code and city on the third line.
  3. Write your address on the back of the envelope. This is the return address to which the post office will return the item if it is lost or delivered to the wrong address. Write down your first and last name, followed by your address. If you do not write the address by hand and, for example, use a printed address label, then the address should appear in a line at the top left of the envelope.
  4. Stick a stamp in the top right corner of the envelope. Make sure you stick enough stamps to send the envelope. If you send the envelope to another country you will need international stamps. You can find more about this on the PostNL website. You can also ask your question to an employee of the postal agency.
  5. Put the first envelope in the second envelope. Slip the first envelope into the second envelope, tape the second envelope closed and you are ready to post the envelope.
  6. Put your envelope in the letterbox or take it to a postal agency. You don't have to pay anything, because you already did when you bought stamps. Now you just have to wait until you get an answer. Don't forget to check if you have mail every day.
