While most owners consider cleaning AirPods wireless earbuds important, cleaning the charging and storage case turns out not to be that important to them. But keeping the charging and storage case clean is important to keep your Apple equipment looking and performing like new, as well as keeping it hygienic. A quick and thorough cleaning of the AirPods case extends the life of your gear, removes all that unsightly fluff and eliminates annoying bacteria growth.

Part 1 of 3: Cleaning the outside of the case

1. Clean the case completely. Start with a non-scratch microfiber cloth for a general and preliminary cleaning. Wipe the outside of the case and remove any easily removable lint, dirt and grease.
2. Dampen the cloth with a little liquid, if necessary. You can use a little distilled water to help you with this; for more difficult dirt, moisten the cloth with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol. But only use a very small amount of liquid. Dry is best if possible.
   • The AirPods and their case are not resistant to liquids, so be careful not to get any liquid into the charging ports or onto the AirPods themselves.
3. Use cotton swabs to remove any dirt or stains on the outside of the case. A cotton swab gives you pinpoint accuracy and lets you work through the gunk. If necessary, moisten the cotton swab with distilled water to loosen dirt and grease. If you have really hard-to-remove and caked-on dirt to contend with, moisten the end of a cotton swab with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol.

Part 2 of 3: Cleaning the inside of the case

1. Get into the charging ports as best you can. Use a cotton swab or cotton ball to clean the charging ports - where the AirPods sleep when out of your ears - as well as other nooks and crannies. Remove as much dust and lint as possible from the contacts to keep the case charging fast and to prevent short circuits.
2. Go into the grooves on the top of the case. Keeping these grooves clean will keep the case looking like new. Moisten the cotton swab with a little water or alcohol, if necessary. However, don't use so much to soak the cotton, to avoid dripping into the case's electronics. You can gently work grease and dust from these difficult areas with a cotton swab that is only slightly moistened.
3. Use a toothpick to work on more stubborn dirt. This is where bacteria can really gain a foothold. A plastic or wooden toothpick would be a great tool for cleaning up the cracks and cracks in the case, especially around the lid. However, be gentle and methodical. Work patiently and gradually remove the greasy build-up without using too much force. Here are a few other helpful tools that will help you keep the AirPods case hygienic, keep it looking like new, and charge like new:
   • Tape or plasticine. Use either one to get rid of dirt, lint and grease; if using tape, use a good quality product that will not leave adhesive. Press the piece of tape or plasticine firmly into the grooves to draw out grease and general build-up in the cracks on the lid and the top of the case.
   • A soft eraser. Use it to wipe away stubborn stains and dirt.
   • A soft toothbrush. Only use a soft or extra soft one and work with it to gently scrub dirt, dust and lint from crevices and the Lightning connector.

Part 3 of 3: Completing the cleanup

1. Wipe the cover again with a microfiber cloth. The AirPods case should now look almost like new. The last step is a quick scrub with a dry microfiber cloth. Rub the case down gently and firmly and give it the finishing touches to complete the cleaning process.
2. Give your AirPods a turn too. Gently wipe each AirPod. If there is soot in the grids, gently wipe it away with a toothbrush. You can use a small amount of isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab for dried grease, but be careful not to get it near the grilles and speaker elements.
3. Place the AirPods back in their charging case. They are ready for their next use.

Warnings

• Do not use abrasives or aerosol cleaners to clean the AirPods or their case. Also avoid solvents other than 70% isopropyl alcohol. Any harsh or heavy duty cleaner will likely damage the glossy finish of the AirPods and the case, and could also damage your ear.
