In this article, we'll show you how to enable adult content and inappropriate (NSFW) content on Reddit.com. You cannot activate adult content on the Reddit mobile app, but if you make the changes described here in a web browser, they will also take effect on the mobile version. Due to Google Play Store and Apple App Store restrictions, some inappropriate content may not be available in the mobile app even after changes have been made.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: Using Reddit.com on a Computer

1. 1 Go to the page https://www.reddit.com in a web browser. If you are not already signed in to your Reddit account, click "Log in" at the top of the page.
   • This method is for users who are using the new version of Reddit. If you are using an older version, skip to the last section of this article.
2. 2 Click on your Reddit username. It's in the top right corner of the page. A menu will open.
3. 3 Click on User Settings (User Settings). It's near the top of the menu.
4. 4 Click on Feed Settings (Ribbon settings). It's one of the tabs at the top of the page.
5. 5 Move the slider next to "Adult content" to "Enable" . From now on, NSFW content will appear in your feed and in search results.
6. 6 Move the "Safe browsing" slider to the "Off" position (not necessary). If this slider is blue, thumbnails and previews of inappropriate and adult content will be blurred in the feed and on the search page. To keep the images clear, move the slider to the Off position - it will turn white and gray.
   • Due to Apple App Store and Google Play Store guidelines, some thumbnails of inappropriate content may be blurred in search results even after these changes are made.
7. 7 Click on SAVE (Save). This blue button is at the bottom of the page. The changes made will be saved. From now on, inappropriate content will appear in your feed.
   • Restart the Reddit mobile app for your changes to take effect on your Android device or iPhone / iPad.
   • If the mobile app still does not display inappropriate content, we recommend that you open Reddit.com in your mobile web browser.

Method 2 of 4: Using Boost for Reddit on an Android Device

1. 1 Download the Boost app for Reddit from the Play Store. With this free app, you can use Reddit and change settings (including NSFW content settings) on your Android smartphone or tablet. To install this app:
   • Open Play Store .
   • Enter boost reddit in the search bar and press Enter.
   • Click Boost for Reddit (a red rocket icon on a blue and yellow background).
   • Click Install and follow the instructions on the screen.
2. 2 Tap ⁝. This icon is in the upper right corner of the app.
3. 3 Click on log in (To come in). It's near the top of the menu.
4. 4 Log in with your Reddit username and password.
5. 5 Scroll down and tap Allow (Allow). This will give the app access to your Reddit feed.
6. 6 Click on ⁝ again and select Settings (Settings). It's at the bottom of the menu.
7. 7 Tap Filters (Filters). It's in the middle of the menu.
8. 8 Scroll down to the More options section. This option is at the bottom.
9. 9 Check the box next to "Show NSFW". A pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm your age.
10. 10 Check the box and click OK. This will confirm that you are over 18 years old. From now on, NSFW content will be available on Reddit.
11. 11 Check the box next to “Load images in NSFW posts” (optional). Activate this option to download images automatically, without having to touch them.
    • To have NSFW images load but remain blurred until you touch them, select the “Blur images in NSFW posts” checkbox.

Method 3 of 4: Using the Reddit Mobile Site

1. 1 Open a web browser on your smartphone or tablet. You can visit Reddit in any browser on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
   • While none of the available Reddit iPhone / iPad apps allow you to enable or disable NSFW content in the app, use this method to update your settings - your changes will still apply on the Reddit app.
2. 2 Go to the page https://www.reddit.com. The Reddit mobile site will open.
3. 3 Tap ☰. It's in the upper-right corner of the page.
4. 4 Click on Log in / sign up (Login / Register). It's near the top of the menu.
   • If you are already logged in, go to step 7.
5. 5 Enter your credentials and click LOG IN (To come in). You will log into your Reddit account and return to the mobile Reddit site.
6. 6 Click on ☰ again. A menu will open.
   • If you are asked to install the Reddit app, simply click on “Mobile site” at the bottom of the screen.
7. 7 Tap Settings (Settings). It's in the drop-down menu. The classic Reddit login page will open.
8. 8 Log in again. Since you have navigated to a different page, you will have to enter your username and password a second time. Enter this information in the blank lines on the right side of the screen, and then click Log in.
   • If you want Reddit to remember your credentials, first check the “Remember me” box below the password bar.
9. 9 Uncheck the "NSFW content" checkbox. This option is in the "Media" section of the first section of the page. From now on, adult content will appear on your Reddit feed and in search results. However, you still have to change a few more settings.
10. 10 Scroll down to the Content options heading. It's near the bottom of the page.
11. 11 Activate NSFW content. Check the boxes for the following options in the Content Options section:
    • I am over eighteen years old and willing to view adult content.
    • Include not safe for work (NSFW) search results in searches.
    • If you want adult / NSFW content to be tagged as "NSFW" in your feed or search results, check the box next to "Label posts that are not safe for work (NSFW)" ...
12. 12 Scroll down and tap Save options (Save parameters). This option is located at the bottom of the page. This will activate NSFW content on your Reddit account.
13. 13 Click on the Reddit logo. You will find it in the upper left corner of the page. You will be taken to the Reddit home page where you can search and view inappropriate content.

Method 4 of 4: Using an old version of Reddit.com

1. 1 Go to the page https://www.reddit.com in a web browser. If you are not already signed in to your Reddit account, click "Log in" at the top of the page.
   • This method is for users who have opted out of upgrading to the new version of Reddit.
2. 2 Click on Preferences (Settings). It's in the upper-right corner of the page (to the left of the Logout link).
3. 3 Uncheck "NSFW Content". This option is in the "Media" section of the first section of the page. From now on, adult content will appear on your Reddit feed and in search results. However, you still have to change a few more settings.
4. 4 Scroll down to the Content options section. It's at the bottom of the page.
5. 5 Check the box next to “I am over eighteen years old and willing to view adult content”. This is the first option in the section. This will tell Reddit that you are old enough to view NSFW content in your feed.
   • If you want adult / NSFW content to be tagged as "NSFW" in your feed or search results, check the box next to "Label posts that are not safe for work (NSFW)" ...
6. 6 Check the box next to “Include not safe for work (NSFW) search results in searches”. NSFW content will now appear in search results.
   • Due to Apple App Store and Google Play Store guidelines, some thumbnails of inappropriate content may be blurred in search results even after these changes are made.
7. 7 Scroll down and tap Save options (Save parameters). This gray button is located in the lower left corner of the page. This will activate NSFW content on your Reddit account.
   • Restart the Reddit mobile app for your changes to take effect on your Android device or iPhone / iPad.
   • If the mobile app still does not display inappropriate content, we recommend that you open Reddit.com in your mobile web browser.

Tips

• The Reddit app prevents certain types of NSFW content from being displayed in the mobile app. This is due to the fact that the App Store and Play Store prohibit the display of some inappropriate content in applications.
