This article will highlight some ways to increase the download speed of your Xbox One. While your download speed usually depends on your ISP and the type of connection you have, there are some things you can do to troubleshoot and fix slow download speeds. After testing the network connection, it can sometimes help to quit other games or apps, restart slow or frozen downloads, restart the Xbox One itself, or use a wired connection to your internet router instead of Wi-Fi.

Method 1 of 5: Test your network connection

1. From the Home screen, select My games and apps. This is a panel on the right side of the Xbox home screen.
   • Move the analog stick on the controller to the right to highlight this option and then press the A button on the controller to select it.
2. Select In queue. This will display all games and apps that are currently downloading or waiting to be downloaded.
3. Select an active download. You will see the progress of the selected download when you select it.
4. Press the button on the controller ☰. Press the Menu button with three lines near the center of the controller.
5. Select Pause. This pauses the download. Repeat this for every active download in your queue.
   • When you have finished checking your Internet connection, return to the Queue List in "My Games & Apps", select all paused downloads, press the Menu button, then select "Resume Installation".
6. Press on the button Xbox. This is the button with the Xbox logo in the center of the controller. This will display the guide.
7. Select Select All settings. This is the first option at the top of the main Settings menu.
8. Select the tab on the left Network. This is the third option.
9. Select Network Settings. This is a panel in the center of the Network Settings page.
10. Select Test network connection. This is a panel on the right of the Network Settings page. This will perform a network test and display the detected download speed. If the detected download speed is significantly slower than the subscription plan you have taken out with your internet service provider, here are a few possible causes:
    • "Other devices on your network connection": If other people in your family use the Internet to stream movies or series, this will slow down your computer. Try disconnecting all other devices.
    • "Peak Hours": During the evening when everyone is home and using the internet, your internet speed is usually slower than usual. Instead, try to download overnight.
    • "Network Problems": There may be a problem with your internet connection, modem or router. You will need to contact your internet service provider to resolve the issue.

Method 2 of 5: Open games or quit apps

1. Press on the button Xbox. This is the button with the Xbox logo in the center of the controller. This will close any games or apps that are still open and return you to the Start screen.
2. Go to and select any running games or apps. The large window on the Start screen displays all running apps.
3. Press on the controller ☰. Press the Menu button with three lines near the center of the controller. This will display a menu with additional options.
4. Select Shut down. Highlight the "Exit" option and press A on the controller. This closes the app. Multiplayer games and video streaming apps can be high bandwidth and slow down your ongoing downloads, if you have them. Avoid opening apps until your download is complete.

Method 3 of 5: Restart the Xbox

1. Press on the button Xbox. This is the button with the Xbox logo in the center of the controller. This will close any games or apps that are open and return you to the Start screen.
2. Select [[Image:| techicon | x30px]]. This is the gear icon in the main sidebar on the left.
   • Move the analog stick on the controller to the left, highlight the gear icon and press the A button on the controller to select it.
3. Select Restart console. This will restart the console. All games and apps are closed. All downloads will be paused and will resume when the console has restarted.
   • If the console is not responding, press and hold the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds. This will force the console to reset.
4. Make sure your downloads resume correctly. In order for your downloads to resume correctly, you must open "My Games and Apps", select "In Queue," then select any download that has been paused. Press the "☰" button on the controller and select "Resume installation".

Method 4 of 5: Resume downloads

1. From the Home screen, select My games and apps. This is a panel on the right side of the Xbox Start screen.
   • Move the analog stick on the controller to the right to highlight this option and then press the A button on the controller to select it.
2. Select In queue. This will display all games and apps that are currently downloading or waiting to be downloaded.
3. Select an active download. You will see the progress of the selected download.
4. Press the button on the controller ☰. Press the Menu button with three lines near the center of the controller.
5. Select Cancel. This will cancel the download.
6. Press on the button XBox. This is the large button with the Xbox logo in the center of the controller.
7. Select the tab Store. It's at the very top right of the Start screen.
8. Go to the game or app. Return to the game or app you were trying to download and select it. You can also select the magnifying glass icon and search for the game or app by name or browse the store to select the game.
9. Select to install. This will resume the download and installation process. Check carefully to see if the download speed has improved.

Method 5 of 5: With a wired connection

1. Connect an ethernet cable to your XBox One. The ethernet port is located at the far right of the back of the XBox One. It is the gate below the icon with three squares connected by a line.
   • You need an ethernet cable that is long enough to reach your modem or router from your Xbox. Read Connect your Xbox One to the internet for more information.
2. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to your router. A typical router has four LAN or Ethernet ports on the back of the router. These usually have a yellow color.
   • When you start the XBox One, the wired connection will be automatically detected.
