This wikiHow shows you how to add a still image or video to a moving video using motion tracking in Adobe After Effects.

To step

1. Add your files to After Effects. Open After Effects and do the following:
   • Create a new project by clicking File clicking, then New and then press New project to click.
   • click on File.
   • Select Import.
   • click on Multiple files ...
   • Keep Ctrl or ⌘ Command while clicking the files you want to import.
     • If your files are in separate locations, you will need to click again File> Import> Multiple files ... Click and select the missing files.
   • click on Open.
2. Create a new composition with your video. Click and drag the video file from the "Name" section down on the "Composition" icon - which looks like an image of red, green, and blue shapes - and then release the video. You should see the video appear in the center of Adobe After Effects.
3. Add the motion track file to the project. Click and drag your video or photo from the section Name to the project pane in the lower left corner of the screen, making sure to drop the file above the video title.
   • This will keep your motion tracking file at the top of the video instead of hiding behind it.
   • If you drop the file below the video title, you can click and drag the file to change the order of the two files.
4. Select the title of your video. Click the title of your video at the bottom left of the window.
5. Create a null object. This is what will serve as your movement tracking goal:
   • click on Low.
   • Select New.
   • click on Zero Object.
6. Add motion tracking animation. Reselect the title of your video by clicking on it in the lower left corner of the screen and do the following:
   • click on Animation.
   • click on Movement registration.
   • Like the button Movement registration is grayed out, make sure your video is selected by clicking the title in the project window.
7. Position the motion record. In the main window, click and drag the box-shaped icon to the location where you want to track the movement of your file.
8. Record the steps of the movement registration. In the "Follow" window, click the button in the lower right corner of the screen PlayClick Edit target .... This is at the bottom of it follow-window.
9. Select the null object. Click the drop-down menu at the top of the pop-up menu, then click Zero 1 in the resulting drop-down menu and click OK.
10. Apply your changes. click on To apply in the section follow of the window, and then click when prompted OK.
11. Place the file you want to move. Click and drag your file to the null object in the main window.
12. Connect your file to the null object. In the project window in the lower left corner of After Effects, click and drag the spiral icon to the right of your file name to the title Zero 1 and then release your mouse.
    • This process becomes bring together and it makes sure your file is tracked along with the null object.
    • When you drag from the spiral icon, you should see a line appear behind your mouse cursor.

Tips

• The higher the quality of the images, the easier it will be to create a smooth and professional motion track.
• It takes some experience to be able to choose a location in the photo that is easy to follow. If this doesn't work that well, try different points.

Warnings

• Movement registration is not an exact science. You may have to play with the positioning of the null object and the size of the tracked object to get perfect results.
