Do you suspect someone is using your wireless network without your permission? If you want to know which devices are connected to your WiFi, then you've come to the right place. There are a number of ways to do this! This wikiHow teaches you how to check who is connected to your Wi-Fi network.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Using a wireless modem

  1. Open a browser. You can use a web browser to log in to the web interface of your wireless modem. You can use the web interface to set up and configure your wireless network and check who is connected to your wireless modem.
  2. Enter the IP address of your modem in the address bar. This will take you to the web interface of your wireless modem. Its IP address will vary by make and model. To find the specific IP address of your wireless modem, refer to the user manual or the manufacturer's web page.
    • Common IP addresses of modems are 192.168.1.1 and 10.0.0.1.
    • You can find the IP address of your modem using the command prompt in Windows. Open the Start menu and type cmd to display the command prompt. Click on it to open it. Then type ipconfig / all and press {{keypress} Enter}. Find the IP address to the right of "Default gateway".
  3. Enter your username and password. If you have not changed the username and password, enter the default information. This can vary depending on the make and model of your modem. Consult the user manual or the manufacturer's web page to find the default username and password for your modem.
    • Common usernames and passwords are "admin" and "password".
  4. Search for a list of devices. You can find a list of connected devices in the web interface of your modem. This depends on the make and model of your modem. It can be found under "Connected devices" or "Connected devices" or something similar. This shows the name and MAC address for each connected device.
    • If you notice any devices that don't belong, make sure to change your Wi-Fi password. Make sure to use WPA2-PSK encryption if available. This will force all connected devices to reenter the new password to reconnect.

Method 2 of 3: Using the command prompt

  1. Open the command prompt. This can be found in any Windows version by pressing your Windows key and typing "cmd".
    • On the Mac you can do this in the terminal. Click on the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner and type terminal in the search bar and then click on the terminal.
  2. Type "arp -a" in the box.
  3. Look at the IP addresses. The IP addresses that start with the same numbers as your modem's IP address (eg 192.168) are connected to your modem. This displays the IP address and MAC address of each connected device.
    • Every device that connects to the internet has a unique MAC address. Generally, you can find a device's MAC address in the "Settings" menu under "Network or Internet Settings", or in the device information. You can find MAC address for Windows, Mac, iPhone, Samsung Galaxy there.
