This wikiHow teaches you how to invite someone to a Google Hangouts chat, from the Hangouts website in a browser or the mobile app on your Android device.

Method 1 of 2: A Desktop Browser user

1. Open the Google Hangouts website in your internet browser. Type hangouts.google.com in the address bar of your browser and press ↵ Enter on your keyboard.
   • If you are not automatically logged in to your Google account in your browser, log in with your email address or phone and your password.
2. Click New Conversation. This button looks like a white "+"draw in a green circle below the Google logo in the top left corner of your browser window.
3. Enter the name, email address or phone number of the person you want to invite. The bar Search displays all matching results.
4. Click on a person from the list. Scroll down to find the person you want to invite and click their name or picture to invite them to start a Hangouts conversation. A chat box will appear on the right side of your browser window.
5. Customize your invitation message. You will see "Let's chat on Hangouts!" As the default invitation message in the chat box. Click on it and enter your own message text.
6. Click on Send invitation. This is the blue button below your invitation message in the chat box. You will see a green check mark and a confirmation message that says "Invitation sent!" Your contact person will receive your invitation immediately.

Method 2 of 2: Using the Android App

1. Open the Hangouts app on your Android device. The Hangouts icon looks like a green speech bubble with a white quote in it.
   • If you're not automatically signed in to your Google account in the Hangouts app, sign in with your email address or phone and password.
2. Tap the green and white + button. This is located at the bottom right of your screen. With this you can choose from New conversation and New video call.
3. Tap New conversation. This button resembles a white speech bubble in a green circle. It will make you Contacts list.
4. Enter the name, email address or phone number of the person you want to invite. The bar Search at the top of your screen shows all matching results.
5. Tap Invite next to a contact name. This option is located on the right side of your phone next to your contact's picture and name. A pop-up dialog box will appear.
6. Tap INVITE TO HANGOUTS. This option is in green capital letters at the bottom of the pop-up dialog.
7. Enter an invitation message. Type a message for your contact to see in your Hangouts invitation.
8. Tap the Send button. Your contact will receive your Hangouts invitation immediately.
