1 Make a strong knot. To do this, leaving a tail about 3-4 cm, put the yarn on the index finger of your left hand so that the long thread from the ball crosses the tail, and a loop is formed above their intersection. Then lift the tail (it should be under the loop) up so that it seems to divide the loop in half. Insert the hook into the loop from the bottom and grab the ponytail so that it is under the hook, and the loop itself is on the top of the hook. Holding the end of the tail and the thread from the ball, pull the hook to the bottom and at the same time with your fingers pull the tail and the thread from the ball by the end, as if spreading them in different directions. You will have a loop on the hook.
  • 2 Grab the thread. Now that you have a loop on the hook, move the thread from the ball to your index finger and clamp it near the middle phalanx with your middle finger - this will be your "working thread". The ponytail should be held between the thumb and middle finger.
  • 3 Now grab the working thread with the crochet: for this, the hook needs to be wound over it and, having hooked with the hook, pull it through the loop that you already have on the hook. You have a chain stitch and there are already two stitches in your chain.
  • 4 Continue repeating these movements until you have the number of loops you need in your chain. Count the knitted loops. For example, if the instructions say that you need to cast on 10 chain stitches, you will need to pull the thread 9 times, since the first, strong loop is considered the first loop of your chain.
  • Part 2 of 4: First double crochet

    1. 1 Tie a few lifting loops. After you have knitted the required number of loops, you need to knit a few more loops, which will become lifting loops and will be considered the first column. If you knit in double crochet stitches, you will need to make 3 lift stitches.
    2. 2 Turn the job. Keeping the last loop on the hook, simply unfold the chain to start knitting from the side you left off the previous row, and these last loops are at the very beginning. Crochet is done from right to left.
    3. 3 Wrap the hook around the working thread two times. To do this, the working thread must be behind the hook and you just need to wrap the hook around the thread two times. You will have three loops on the hook. This is the nakida. You have done two yarns.
    4. 4 Insert the hook into the chain. The hook will need to be inserted into the fifth eyelet from the hook on the air chain (do not forget that the first eyelet on the hook counts as the first). The missed stitches will be your first double crochet stitch.
    5. 5 Now grab the working thread and pull it through the loop of the air chain and pull it out. You now have 4 loops on your hook.
    6. 6 Grab the working thread again and now pull it through the two eyelets on the hook. You will have 3 loops on the hook. In order to knit a column with two crochets, the loops on the hook will need to be knitted in pairs.
    7. 7 Grab the working thread again and pull it through the 2 eyelets on the crochet hook again. You should now only have 2 stitches on your hook.
    8. 8 Hook the working thread one last time and pull it through the last 2 loops. Your first double crochet stitch is ready!

Part 3 of 4: How to Knit Next?

    1. 1 Make two yarns again. Before you insert the hook and start knitting the double crochet, you should always do two crochets.
    2. 2 Insert the hook into the next loop. You don't need to count the stitches this time. Just insert the hook into the next eyelet.
    3. 3 Hook the working thread. And again repeat the same movement as you did for the first column - pull the thread through the first two loops.
    4. 4 Hook the working thread again and pull it through the next two loops.
    5. 5 Grab the working thread again and pass it through the two loops. Do not forget, each time you need to knit two loops, it is not at all difficult.
    6. 6 You did it! Now you have only one loop on the hook again.
    7. 7 Now repeat movements 1 through 6. And so on until the end of your air chain.

Part 4 of 4: How to knit the second row of double crochet stitches?

    1. 1 Expand knitting. Now again you just need to unfold the work so that the last columns are at the very beginning.
    2. 2 Tie the lifting loops. In addition to the existing eyelet on the crochet hook, you need to tie three chain stitches. Do you remember how to do them?
    3. 3 Make two yarns and insert the crochet hook. Make two yarns again and insert the crochet hook into the space between the two posts of the previous row.
    4. 4 Hook the working thread and pull it through the two eyelets on the hook.
    5. 5 Grab the working thread again and pull it up. Again, you only need to pull it through two loops. Repeat until you have only one loop left on the hook.
    6. 6 Repeat steps 3 through 5 until the very end of your row. Do not forget to count the columns - there should be exactly the same number of them as in the previous row, but remember that three lifting loops are counted as a column. Continue all your work in the same way.
