1 Connect your iPhone to your computer. Open iTunes and make sure it's updated to the latest version. Your phone should appear in the list of devices in the left frame of iTunes. You will be using iTunes to create the backup and for the iPhone restore process.- If iPhone is connected to your computer but iTunes still doesn't recognize it, you may need to launch iTunes in DFU mode. If you need to run it in DFU mode, then most likely you will not be able to make a backup.
- Turn off your iPhone.
- Hold the power button for three seconds. Then, for exactly 10 seconds, hold the power button and Home button together.
- Release the power button, but continue to hold the Home button until your iPhone appears in the iTunes device list.
