This article will show you how to view the version number of your Internet Explorer browser. Internet Explorer 11 is the latest version of this browser because Microsoft replaced it with Microsoft Edge and dropped further support for Internet Explorer.If you do not have Internet Explorer 11 installed, you need to update Internet Explorer to protect yourself from browser vulnerabilities, or download Microsoft Edge.

Steps

1. 1 Start Internet Explorer. The program icon has a light blue “e” symbol outlined with a gold ribbon.
2. 2 Open "Settings" in the upper right corner of the Internet Explorer window to display the drop-down menu.
   • If the gear icon is nowhere to be seen, press the key Alt, and then click the Help tab at the top left of the page.
3. 3 Press About the program at the bottom of the dropdown menu. A pop-up window will appear.
4. 4 Take a look at the Internet Explorer version. Take a look at the number to the right of the "Version:" heading inside the popup. The number before the decimal point indicates the general version (for example, IE 10 or 11), and the string of numbers after the decimal point refers to a specific assembly of that version.
