Drywall is a material used to create the interior walls of houses and other buildings. Before painting the interior walls of the house, drywall must go through sanding, during which a large amount of dust will be obtained. You can take preventive measures before sanding, such as spreading plastic wrap to reduce the spread of dust during sanding. All the tools you will need to clean drywall dust can be purchased from a hardware store or tool store. Use these steps to clean drywall dust.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Cleaning up dust before sanding

  1. 1 Cover with plastic wrap. By spreading the plastic wrap, you will prevent dust from leaving the room in which you are working.
    • Place the tape on the floor of the room in which you will sand the walls.
    • Do not forget to cover the doorway and ventilation grill with foil. You can secure the foil to the doorway and ventilation grill with electrical tape.
  2. 2 Fans. The fans will ventilate the room you are working in.
    • Place them in the windows of the room where you will be sanding.
    • Position the fans so that air is blown into the room.
    • Turn on the fans at low speed.
  3. 3 Remove the protective grid. Remove the insect screen from the doors and windows of the room you will be working in. This way, you won't need to dust them off after sanding the drywall.

Method 2 of 2: Cleaning up dust after sanding

  1. 1 Get your vacuum cleaner ready.
    • Place a fine dust bag in the vacuum cleaner. Install the bag following the instructions for use of the vacuum cleaner.
    • Place the brush attachment on the vacuum cleaner. Install the brush attachment following the instructions for use of the vacuum cleaner. The nozzle hose should be long enough to fit into any section of the wall you are cleaning.
  2. 2 Vacuum the walls. Go over the walls with a brush attachment. Go through the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner, starting from where the wall meets the ceiling and ending with the junction of the wall with the floor. Remember to dust off the corners of the walls.
  3. 3 Take a sticky microfiber cloth.
    • Place the sticky tissue on top of the telescopic cue stick.
    • If there is no way for the cue to secure the napkin on top of it, then take an elastic band.
  4. 4 Wipe dust off the walls with a sticky microfiber cloth.
    • Run the sticky napkin all over the walls.
    • Shake the napkin occasionally to prevent dust from accumulating on it. Flip the napkin over to the other side if the first side becomes too dirty.
