Traveling, reading, or watching TV may put pressure on your neck and shoulders, feeling discomfort or pain. When trying to fall asleep while traveling in a car or on an airplane flight, you may experience the discomfort of being without a pillow or trying to sleep on a regular pillow. By learning how to make a neck pillow, you will be able to eliminate many of these problems. You can even make a scented neck pillow that can comfort you or, conversely, cheer you up.

Steps

  1. 1 Draw a horseshoe pattern on the tracing paper. The pattern should be at least 15.24 cm wide to provide adequate seam allowances, and there should be about 3.18 cm of extra space around the neck.
  2. 2 Fold the fabric in half, right side in. Most fabrics will work for this pillow, but soft textiles will be most pleasing to your neck. Flannel or soft knitwear works well. A pillow made from an old T-shirt is a great "economical" option. Cottons and denims will work too, but you will need to wash the fabric to shrink before you start sewing the pillow.
  3. 3 Place the pattern on the fabric. Fasten. Cut the fabric to fit the pattern.
  4. 4 Remove the tracing paper, but the pieces of fabric should remain stuck together. Sew the pillow blank around the edge, leaving one of the narrow ends open.
  5. 5 Cut the seams by 64 mm. Turn the pillow right out.
  6. 6 Combine raw rice and herbs to prepare pillow litter.
    • To create a soothing, sleep-inducing mixture, add 1 cup of dried lavender and chamomile flowers to the rice.
    • For an invigorating blend that stimulates mental activity, mix 1/4 cup dried cinnamon and cloves with rice. You can also use 1 cup of dried peppermint leaves.
  7. 7 Pour the rice mixture into the pillow, leaving it empty about 5 cm from the edge.
  8. 8 Fold the allowance on the open edge of the pillowcase towards the inside of the pillow. Sew the exposed connector by hand.

Tips

  • You can also fill your neck pillow with polyfill filler or cut a horseshoe-shaped foam pad for a firmer pillow. This is especially convenient for sleeping while traveling.
  • To use your pillow for unhealthy joints and muscles, place it in the microwave for 2 minutes, then flip it over and heat for another 2 minutes. Be careful when pressing the heated pillow against your skin. If it gets too hot, place a tissue or hand towel between your neck and the pillow.
