You will not be able to recreate the image of the Black Swan without the spectacular and memorable makeup of the main character named Nina. Her pale face, winged black and white eye makeup and bold burgundy lips are simply unforgettable. Luckily, you don't need a professional makeup artist to recreate this theatrical look. If you choose the right products, you can replicate Nina's wonderful look and complete the perfect Black Swan look.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Whiten your face

1. 1 Paint the face white. It is best to do this with white face paint, but a light white powder will work just fine. Nina's face is ghostly white in the film, so whitening is imperative. Use a sponge or large tone brush to apply face paint. Focus on completely covering your face, while paying attention even to the lines along the hairline. Don't forget to whiten your eyelids, ears and neck as well.
   • Apply white paint to the neck area gradually to get a smooth transition to your natural skin tone. This will make the transition between the white paint and your skin look less harsh.
2. 2 Apply foundation over white paint or powder. Use the lightest foundation shade you can find. Use a large, fluffy brush to avoid smudging the white paint on your face. The foundation will set the face paint and hide any streaks or blemishes. When you finish applying foundation, take a white eye shadow and repeat the process. White shadows will highlight the white paint, making it opaque and matte.
   • Using face powder over paint will help prevent smudging of your makeup from a light touch. It will also create a good base for the rest of your makeup.
3. 3 Cover your cheeks with bronzer. A dark gray bronzer works best. This will visually highlight your cheekbones. Nina's face in the film is very thin, which further accentuates the makeup. The bronzer will accentuate the cheekbones, which will especially highlight their striking contrast to the white face. Apply bronzer to the apples of your cheeks and blend diagonally to your temples.

Part 2 of 3: Create Spectacular Eye Makeup

1. 1 Draw wings near the eyes. Use a waterproof black pencil or liquid eyeliner for this step. This will help you a lot with a photograph of Nina in the form of the Black Swan, located in the line of sight throughout the entire makeup process. The wing outline should have a clear point on the inside of the bridge of the nose and then follow a curve along the natural upper edge of the brow. The bottom of the curve should go from the inside of the nose, along the bottom of the eye, like a thick eyeliner line. At the same time, the wings fan out from the outer corners of the eyes and end in uneven boundaries.
   • It's absolutely okay if your lines aren't perfect. The idea is to resemble the wings of a Black Swan, so if the makeup is a little smudged, the wings will look slightly washed out.
2. 2 Fill in the outline you drew. First, you can fill it in with black eyeliner, and then brush over the entire area with an eyeshadow brush. Eyeliner will make black opaque, while black eyeshadow will fix it. The easiest way is to paint the wings with liquid eyeliner, and then apply shadows with a small brush.
3. 3 Create a plumage effect with white eyeliner. Don't worry about precision at this point, as these lines end up being wavy and jagged.To make the white lines appear as contrasting as possible against the black wings, dip the eyeshadow brush in white face paint and blend over the white pencil. Continue until you have feathers on the wings like Nina's.
   • The lower eyelid line can also be emphasized with a white pencil. This will make your eyes stand out even more against the intense black background.
   • Optionally, you can highlight the lines with shimmery silver eye shadow to add drama to the look.
4. 4 Apply emerald green eyeshadow to the wings. Using your finger, lightly apply the green eyeshadow over your base makeup. There were hints of a green hue in Nina's makeup, so green eyeshadow will be the finishing touch of the wings makeup. This shade shouldn't be too dark - apply enough to make the color play out when changing lighting or head movements!
5. 5 Use mascara. Nina doesn't have an intense lash makeup, but this step will make your eyes stand out even more. Several layers of mascara will accentuate your eyes against a dark eyeshadow background. Add a layer of mascara, let it dry and then reapply. Focus on the tips of your lashes to maximize your eyes.

Part 3 of 3: Perfect Dark Lips

1. 1 Paint your lips. Use a maroon lipstick for this. Applying lip liner will increase the hold of your lipstick, which is especially important for this look. Nina had perfectly defined lips, so you need to achieve maximum lipstick durability. Make sure the lip liner is sharp enough, and then draw the outline from the center of the upper lip to the center of the lower lip. Carefully draw a line along the very edge of the lips on either side of the mouth.
2. 2 Fill in the outline with dark lipstick. For this look, a maroon or grape color with a brown tint is best suited. Paint over the lips completely and blot them. Be sure to take your lipstick with you as you will likely need to reapply it if you eat or drink.
3. 3 Apply brown foundation to lips. This will ensure the lips remain dark in color. This step is optional but will make the color look more durable. Take a makeup sponge and lightly dip it in dark powder. Press firmly to your lips. The dark lipstick will still show through, but the compressed powder will help it stay in place.

Tips

• Tie all your hair into a tight ballerina bun before applying makeup. This will keep them safe from accidental white paint.
