If you've brought home a puppy or dog but haven't bought a bed for her yet, you'll have to quickly prepare one yourself. Until the moment you purchase a normal ready-made bed, you will be saved by quick and easy methods of making bed beds from available tools.

Steps

Method 1 of 5: Choosing a Location for Your Dog

  1. 1 Decide where the dog will sleep. If for the first time this will be your room, free up the appropriate space. If it is a pantry, kitchen, doorstep, or some other place, find a warm, draft-free area.
    • The most important thing is that the dog bed and the dog itself can fit in the allocated space.
    • Choose a place where the dog will not be disturbed while sleeping.

Method 2 of 5: Out-of-the-box lounger

  1. 1 Find a cardboard box at home. It should be large enough to accommodate your dog. Place old towels or blankets in it. If you have an old pillow, it's a good idea to put it in the box first and then cover it with a towel or blanket.
    • Encourage your dog to climb into the box by patting the bed.

Method 3 of 5: Rag Bedding

  1. 1 If you can't find the box, make a rag pad. For example, wrap an old towel, blanket, or curtain around your pillow.
  2. 2 If you don't have a pillow for your dog, stuff the pillowcase with old clothes. Then wrap the resulting pillow with a towel or blanket and place it where the dog should sleep.

Method 4 of 5: Bedding from an old sweater or cardigan

  1. 1 Find a wool or other soft sweater or cardigan that you no longer wear.
  2. 2 Fold the sweater or cardigan using the sleeves to form the sides of the bunk. Tamp it down until it looks cozy.
  3. 3 Place the bed in the dog's seat. Encourage your pet to try it out.

Method 5 of 5: Bunk bed from a basket or suitcase

  1. 1 Look at your home for an old basket or suitcase. If you find something large enough to hold your dog, you might even have a durable bed for it.
  2. 2 Place something soft in your basket or suitcase. Ideally, this should be a pillow.
  3. 3 Spread out the couch. Take an old blanket, towel or sweater for this. Wrap it around the original mattress you laid in the previous step.
  4. 4 Encourage your dog to try out the bed. Be careful with the lid of the suitcase, either remove it completely, or flatten it out if it can close (on old hard suitcases), or fold it under the bottom of the suitcase (in the case of more flexible suitcases).

Tips

  • If your dog doesn't like the bed, try fixing the problem. Does she like the place you have chosen? Does the box / bedding smell in an unusual way? Think about what might be wrong.
  • You can put a favorite toy or blanket in it to help your dog learn to use it.

Warnings

  • The dog may try to chew on the box or bedding.
  • If your dog loves to chew on items to relieve stress, do not place the bed near poisonous items, such as houseplants.
