The hammock is an absolute symbol of the outdoor fan. It is a portable bed that can be easily hung between two stable and long structures such as trees or posts. Making your own hammock is an art, and there are many ways to make it.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Hanging a Fabric Hammock on a Frame

With a piece of durable and original fabric, you can make a wonderful hammock that will decorate any patio. This hammock can be hung on a special frame.

  1. 1 Cut the fabric. Measure a piece that is 225 cm long and 128 cm wide, and then cut it off.
  2. 2 Fold up the seam allowance at the top and bottom ends of the fabric length. Make a 1.25 cm allowance twice. Sew.
  3. 3 Fold the fabric twice on each side by 6.25 cm. Sew. This is done to form the rope drawstring.
  4. 4 Measure the loop tape along both short ends and cut. Secure the loops with pins at each end, then tuck and sew to the original piece of fabric. For extra strength, use strong thread and make two rows of stitches.
    • Do not sew buttonholes at the rope loop on the long sides of the fabric cut.
  5. 5 Saw a piece of wood into two equal halves. Drill 8 mm holes in the ends of the rod, 1.1 cm from the ends.
  6. 6 Thread the first half of the rod through the loops at the base of the hammock. Then thread the other rod through the top end.
  7. 7 Prepare your water ski rope. Cut 9 meters of rope. Light the ends to prevent ruffling (use a lighter, stovetop, or candle flame).
    • Spread the hammock on a flat surface, such as a clean long table or floor.
    • With patience, thread the rope through the first hole in the rod. Then, stretch the rope through the entire drawstring and guide it through the hole in the opposite rod at the other end of the hammock.
    • Drag the rope and leave a 1.6 meter long outside. Then thread the rest of the rope through the other hole in the rod on the same short side and pull it down the drawstring to the hole at the beginning of the hammock.
    • The length of the two free sides of the rope (one of which is an open arc) should be about a meter. Make corrections if necessary.
  8. 8 Hold one rope 8 cm from the end. Fold it in half to make a loop. Pull the singed end of the rope into an open loop for 40-50 cm. Press it down, tighten securely. The rope will remain intertwined and will not come loose (test this by pulling it).
    • If the rope you are using comes loose, you will need to tie a knot.
  9. 9 Do the same on the side with the arc. Cut the rope in half and then wrap the ends around the rod one third and two thirds of its length. Make an open loop as described above, thread the other end of the rope and tighten it.
    • You can also choose not to create a loop.Instead, tighten large knots at the holes in the rods to prevent the rope from slipping, then tie the loose ends around a large object, such as a tree stump, or hang from hammock mounts attached to porch posts, etc.
  10. 10 Correct to ensure uniformity. Hang the hammock from the frame by tying the ropes through the holes in the frame.

Method 2 of 3: Marine hammock

  1. 1 Cut a piece of canvas 2 by 1.2 meters.
    • If tall people will use the hammock, then increase these dimensions. Keep in mind that you will lose about 15 centimeters of fabric in the process of making your hammock.
  2. 2 Fold up the long edges of the canvas by 3.8 cm. Make a seam.
  3. 3 Fold up the short edges of the canvas by 3.8 cm. Smooth it down. Make the same fold again and smooth again. Then sew on the folded ends, making at least two to three stitches. Make seams at least 2.5 cm from the edge to leave room for the eyelets.
  4. 4 Mark 20 equidistant points along each end of the hammock. The eyelets will be located here.
    • Use an invisible fabric marker or chalk.
  5. 5 Install eyelets at these points.
  6. 6 Cut the rope. Cut it into 10 shorter pieces 2.7 m long.
  7. 7 Weave a harness from the ropes. The most common macrame knot braiding method is:
    • Fold the ropes in half.
    • Secure the folded ropes to the ring with the larkhead knot.
    • Place the ring under the cocktail glass or fix the work surface in some other way.
    • Spread out the ropes and line them up.
    • Number the ends of the ropes from 1 to 20.
    • Weave all the ropes into a braid.
  8. 8 Attach the loose ends of the rope to the matching eyelets. When adding new ropes, use a sturdy knot such as a gazebo. Tighten it tight and check the strength of the hammock.
  9. 9 Hang it on trees or poles. Pull it tight. Before lying down, check that the hammock can support your weight.

Method 3 of 3: Simple canvas or blanket hammock

This basic hammock is very lightweight, easy to carry, and ideal if you want to camp in the woods.

  1. 1 To make this hammock, you will need to choose between a tarp or a blanket as the fabric.
  2. 2 Cut the tarp or blanket to size. This action is performed only when necessary. Before cutting, allowance for the slack in the middle, under the feet and above the head.
    • If you want to use the product again for its original purpose, do not cut it.
  3. 3 Squeeze one end of the tarp or blanket into a bun. Tie it with a strong rope to a larkhead or dead knot.
  4. 4 Wrap the rope around the tree several times. Then trace it through the opposite tree or anchor point. Repeat the pinching and tying process on the other end of the tarp or blanket. This will stretch a tight rope over the hammock that you can use to get in or out of the hammock. You can also hang a rain canopy on it.
    • If you don't want to make an awning, you can always cut the rope in two, separate for the top and bottom.
    • Use a tarp as a canopy. If the tarp is twice your height, fold it in half and hang it over the hammock. You will have a canopy that blocks out rain or sunlight.

Tips

  • If you weigh 90 kg or more, then to strengthen the hammock, you should add additional straps to it and sew them to its bottom.
