If you are planning to sell your Samsung Galaxy S2, you need to do a factory reset. If your phone is not performing well, a factory reset can also help fix this problem.

When you do a factory reset on a Samsung Galaxy S2, you erase all data from the phone and, if you choose the appropriate option, also from the SD card. You will erase all installed applications, their settings and data, delete all Google accounts associated with the phone. The operating system of the phone, system applications and data recorded on the external SD card will remain intact.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Factory reset using the app

1. 1 Open the ‘Settings’ ’menu. Press the '' Menu '' button on the home screen of your phone, touch the '' Settings '' icon to open them.
2. 2 Start factory reset. In '' Settings '' tap '' Backup & reset '' and select '' Reset settings ''.
3. 3 Choose whether or not to erase the data from the SD card. Tap the option '' Format USB storage '' or check or uncheck it.
   • If you have selected this option by checking the box, all data from the external SD card will be deleted.
   • If the checkbox is not checked, data will not be deleted from the SD card.
4. 4 Reset the settings. Once the settings have been reset, you cannot recover the erased data on your phone. Tap '' Reset settings '', then '' Delete all ''.
   • The Samsung Galaxy S2 factory reset process will begin. Do not turn off your phone until the process is complete.

Method 2 of 2: Hard reset

1. 1 First, try resetting your settings through the app. If for some reason you cannot do this, you need to do a hard reset. This means you will have to do a factory reset using the hardware buttons rather than using the app.
2. 2 Turn off your phone. The '' Power '' button is located on the side in the upper right part of the phone.Press and hold the Power button until you see the power off options on the screen. Tap '' Turn off '' and wait for the phone to turn off completely.
3. 3 Switch on the phone using the '' Power '' and '' Volume up / Volume down '' buttons. Volume up / down buttons are located on the left side of the phone. While pressing and holding the Volume Up / Down buttons, press and hold the Power button. When the Samsung logo appears on the screen, stop pressing the Power button, but keep pressing the Volume Up / Down button. When the Reset settings screen appears, stop pressing the volume button.
4. 4 Reset your phone settings. Use the Volume Up / Down button to select the Factory Reset option and press the Power button to confirm your choice. Press the Volume Down button to highlight Yes - Delete user data, then press the Power button to confirm your choice. Press the Power button again to restart the phone.
   • Samsung Galaxy S2 will start the factory reset process. Do not turn off your phone while the process is in progress.
