The radiator in the car is responsible for cooling the engine. Over time, slag and rust can build up in its system, making the cooling job less efficient. To avoid this, you need to periodically flush the radiator (once every 2 years). Do not be lazy to take care of your car, and then he will reciprocate you! And when it comes to the "heart" of the machine - the engine, then it certainly cannot be left to chance.

Steps

  1. 1 Make sure the engine is cold. This is necessary because the coolant of a recently running engine is extremely hot and can cause severe burns!
  2. 2 Open the bonnet and locate the radiator, usually located at the front of the engine compartment. Clean the radiator fins with soapy water and a soft brush. Remove dead insects from the radiator. Don't hurt your ribs!
  3. 3 Place a container under the radiator drain. The location can be found in the user book. Drain the antifreeze (or whatever liquid you use instead) and remove the container. Use rubber gloves, as the antifreeze is caustic and toxic!
  4. 4 Make sure that the main components and parts of the cooling system are in working order.
    • Pay particular attention to the radiator cap, which helps maintain the correct pressure in the system. Replace parts if necessary.
    • Also check the hoses that go from / to the radiator. The fasteners must be secure, there must be no leaks. Replace if necessary!
  5. 5 Flush the radiator - a garden hose will do just fine. Flush the system with water under low pressure.
  6. 6 Add new antifreeze. Basically, the choice of coolant is yours. In the summer, many people use distilled water because of its low cost. However, before winter, it is necessary to drain it and pour in antifreeze so that the liquid does not freeze in cold weather (in the picture, the American generally seems to be pouring an energy drink into the system .. good luck to him;)
  7. 7 Start the engine with the cover unscrewed! Let the car idle for 10 minutes. This will help purge air from the system. If necessary, add antifreeze after that. Screw the cover back on.

Tips

  • Check the system for leaks. Look under the car after pouring new fluid and letting the machine run.
  • Hand over the spent liquid for recycling (auto services and auto shops must accept).

Warnings

  • Coolant can have a sweet, cloying odor, which can attract pets and children. Be careful and keep them away from chemicals!
  • For draining, use a disposable container (or one that is not a pity), because then you will have to get rid of it due to the toxicity of antifreeze.

What do you need

  • 4 to 8 liters of antifreeze (or other coolant)
  • Container for drained liquid
  • garden hose
  • Latex gloves
  • Protective glasses
  • Soapy water
  • Soft brush
