If your Mac OS system freezes, you must force shutdown and then restart it. However, in this case, there is a risk of losing some of the data that you worked with before the system freeze. This article will show you how to force shutdown Mac OS and try to save data.

Steps

1. 1 Wait a little. Give the system a little time (about five minutes), and, perhaps, it will start working again (maybe some process is started that takes up all system resources; wait until this process ends).
   • This is especially true if the screen displays a beach ball icon. This means that the system is busy executing some process.
2. 2 Make sure the system is completely frozen, i.e. not responding at all. If you can move your mouse cursor around the screen, then perhaps you can access applications to save data.
3. 3 Attempt to shutdown the system as usual, that is, click on the Apple icon and select “Shut Down”.
4. 4 Try shutting down the system by pressing Control + Option + Command + Eject. If it worked, active applications will be closed and data saved.
5. 5 If the system is still not responding, shut it down by pressing the power button on the system unit. To do this, hold the power button for 3-5 seconds.
6. 6 Wait 30 seconds and turn the computer back on.

Warnings

• If you shut down the system by pressing the power button of the system unit, then most likely the data will not be saved.
