Bibimbap (비빔밥, also bibimbap, bibimppap, bibimbab, bibimbap or bibimbap) translates as "rice mixed with other ingredients." This Korean dish consists of white rice, raw egg, fried vegetables, chunks of meat, chili paste, and soy sauce or salted bean paste. Bibimbap is very easy to prepare and the finished dish looks very beautiful - you will definitely want to take a picture of it!

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons Korean red pepper paste
  • 4 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon chopped ginger
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • Pepper
  • Salt
  • 5 mushrooms (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 medium zucchini (thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 medium white onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 medium carrot (cut into strips)
  • 4 cups (760 g) parboiled short-grain white rice
  • 5 romaine lettuce leaves (chopped thinly)
  • 4 fried eggs
  • 1/2 cup (70-100 g) soybean sprouts (with a pinch of salt)
  • 6 pieces of bulgogi (marinated meat cooked over a fire)

Steps

  1. 1 Make gochujang sauce. Combine Korean red pepper paste with sesame oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, ginger and sesame seeds in a small bowl or saucer. The sauce is ready, you can put it aside for a while.
  2. 2 Heat a little vegetable oil. Pour some vegetable oil into a heavy-bottomed skillet and heat it over medium-high heat. When the pan is hot, fry the vegetables in it. Set the toasted vegetables aside.
  3. 3 Prepare 4 bowls. Place 1 cup of rice in each bowl. Top with vegetables, lettuce and soybean sprouts. Try to arrange so that the dish looks beautiful. Add bulgogi (literally meaning "fiery meat"). Top with a fried egg or crush raw for a more traditional flavor.
  4. 4 Pour the gochujang sauce over the top. Don't add too much sauce because it is hot enough!
  5. 5 Bon Appetit! Before you eat bibimbap, stir the rice with other ingredients so that the rice turns red with the sauce.

Tips

  • If you don't like the vegetables offered in this recipe, you can use any other vegetables.
  • Bibimbap is traditionally eaten with raw egg and raw meat, but if you are afraid to eat raw meat and eggs, this is not necessary at all, you can use, for example, fried egg and cooked meat.
  • You don't need to add raw egg or bulgogi to bibimbap if you don't like these foods.
  • The egg can be cooked in any way you like, but usually it is fried in a pan and placed with the yolk on top, or simply add a raw egg on top of the hot rice.
  • If you don't know how to use chopsticks, eat bibimbap with a spoon or fork.
  • Take a picture of your bibimbap before you eat it, because this dish looks so beautiful!

Warnings

  • Don't eat too much sauce as it might be too spicy.
  • You can use sushi rice, but it is more sticky than regular rice.

What do you need

  • A bowl or saucer for making the sauce
  • A spoon or other tool for mixing the sauce
  • Frying pan with a thick bottom
  • Spatula
  • 4 bowls
