Storing your bike hanging on a wall saves space and protects the vehicle from damage. To hang your bike securely on the wall, you will need to use a shelf or hook for securing it. Once you properly secure the wall mount for the bike with a drill, you have more space and always have unhindered access to the bike if you ever decide to ride it.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Mount parallel to the wall

  1. 1 Purchase from a bike store or order online a shelf to mount your bike parallel to the wall. Choose a vertical or horizontal shelf depending on how you want your bike to hang. A vertical bike rack is a good option when you need to economize on wall space. If you want your bike to hang horizontally, choose a horizontal shelf for it.
  2. 2 Measure your bike with a tape measure. Determine the length of the bike if you are going to hang it vertically, or measure its height if you will be using a horizontal shelf.
  3. 3 Place the shelf against the wall where you want to hang your bike. Do not place the shelf too high, otherwise the bike will rest against the ceiling when suspended. When you have determined the most suitable location for attaching the shelf, mark with a pencil on the wall all the locations of the shelf mounting holes. In most cases, there will be only two screw holes.
    • If you are using a horizontal shelf, make sure the distance between the floor and the shelf is greater than the height of the bike itself.
    • When using a vertical shelf, make sure the distance between the floor and the shelf is greater than the length of the bike.
  4. 4 Use a drill to drill holes in the wall along the marked points. Make sure the holes are deep enough for the dowels and screws used (for brick and concrete walls). Use a slightly thinner drill than the screws supplied with the shelf when fixing the bike to a wooden wall.
    • For example, if 6mm screws are attached to the shelf, use a 5mm wood drill.
  5. 5 Insert the dowels into the drilled holes. The use of dowels allows the screws to better adhere to the wall on which you are going to mount the shelf. Use anchor plugs of the same size as the screws supplied with the shelf. Dowels can be found at hardware stores.
  6. 6 Place the shelf over the prepared holes and secure with screws. Use a screwdriver to screw the screws through the holes in the shelf and into the wall anchors. Tighten the screws until they stop turning.
  7. 7 Hang your bike on a shelf. Hang the bike from the front wheel when using a vertical rack. If you are using a horizontal rack, support the top of the bike frame on it.

Method 2 of 2: Mount perpendicular to the wall

  1. 1 Get a bike hook that can support the weight of your vehicle. The package with the hook must indicate the maximum load that it can withstand. Do not use a hook made for lighter bikes than yours, or it may fall out of the wall. Special hooks can be found at bike shops.
    • Use a bathroom scale to determine the weight of the bike if you don't remember it. Weigh yourself first, and then with the bike in hand. Subtract your own weight from the last measurement. The calculation will be based on the weight of your bike.
    SPECIALIST'S ADVICE

“There are many ways to mount your bike to the wall, but hooks are my preferred choice. They are inexpensive and easy to use. "

  2. 2 If you have drywall walls, use a wood beam detector. This device can be found at a power tool store. Place the device against the wall, press the button and slowly move it along the wall until it indicates that it has found a fixing beam. Typically, such a device turns on a light or sound indication when a beam is detected. Read the instructions for use of your particular device for exact information on its use.
  3. 3 Measure the length of your bike with a tape measure. Measurement should be made from the most protruding part of the front wheel to the most protruding part of the rear wheel.
  4. 4 Use a pencil to mark the location of the bike hook on the wall. For drywall walls, make sure you are going to attach the hook to a hidden beam in the wall. Since the bike will hang vertically, make sure the distance between the floor and the hook itself is greater than the length of the bike.
  5. 5 Use a drill to mark a hole in the wall for the hook. If you are going to screw the bike hook into wood, use a drill bit slightly smaller than the screw end of the hook. When working with brick and concrete walls, drill a hole deep enough to accommodate the dowel and the screw part of the hook.
  6. 6 Screw the bike hook into the wall until it snaps into place. Insert the screw portion of the hook into the hole and rotate the hook clockwise until it stops rotating. The hook itself should be parallel to the floor.
  7. 7 Hang the bike on the hook. Hook the front wheel of the bike onto the hook so that both tires are against the wall and the saddle is facing away from it.
