1 Make 4 wheels out of heavy cardboard or foam.
  • Use a compass or round object to draw the wheels. The rubber bands will give the clipper some grip.
  • 2 Find the stick that will be used to trigger your mousetrap. Remove it carefully. If the mousetrap has any sharp teeth, then use tweezers to remove them too.
  • 3 Cut out a piece of cardboard with scissors. The cardboard that will be the chassis or base of the machine should be about 13-15 mm wider than the mousetrap on all sides.
  • 4 Center the mousetrap on the chassis. Secure it to the chassis with tape on each side. Avoid tape the springs and staples in the middle of the mousetrap.
  • 5 Attach 4 self-tapping screws with an eyelet at each corner of the underside of the chassis. Align the position of the screws with each other using a ruler.
  • 6 Cut 2 thin rods about 4 cm longer than the width of the rings' axis. These pins will be the axles for the wheels you made. They should be thin enough to fit through the eyelets on the self-tapping screws, but not too thin to maintain alignment.
  • 7 Make holes in the center of each wheel that are slightly smaller than the center rods using the needle of your compass. Attach each wheel to the end of a rod, leaving approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) on the axle extending from the wheel and from the body of the clipper. Large wheels run to the back of the car, which is opposite to the trigger brace.
  • 8 Wrap a thin elastic band around each part of the shaft sticking out of the wheels. This elastic will help keep the wheels in place, preventing them from jumping off the axle.
  • 9 Wrap one end of the string around the mousetrap staple. Tie a knot to secure the thread in place.
  • 10 Cut the thread so that it is long enough to reach the rear axle of the machine.
  • 11 Fold back the bracket and clamp it securely. While holding the staple, have a friend quickly wrap the thread around the back of the clipper until there is no thread left. The string should be tied well enough to hold the brace of the mousetrap. Your partner should hold the thread properly and not let it come loose, otherwise the brace will be released ahead of time.
  • 12 Place the clipper on the floor while holding the trap bracket in place. Make sure you are holding the end of the thread securely and release the staple.
  • 13 Remove your hands from the trap and release the thread. Your mousetrap on wheels will travel a certain distance forward depending on the length of the string.
  • 14 Ready.

    • Be careful not to drop the craft.
    • Make sure the path ahead of your car is clear. Obstacles can break a fragile device.
