In this article, we'll show you how to open a torrent file. A torrent file is a small file with which you can download a large file (movie, game, etc.); the torrent file is opened in a special program such as BitTorrent. Torrent files can be opened on Windows, macOS and Android, but not on iOS (iPhone / iPad).

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On the computer

1. 1 Open the qBitTorrent website. Go to https://www.qbittorrent.org/download.php in your computer's web browser.
2. 2 Select the download link. Depending on your operating system, select one of the following options:
   • Windows — Click 64-bit installer to the right of the Mirror link heading in the Windows section.
   • Mac — Click DMG to the right of the Mirror link heading in the macOS section.
3. 3 Double click on the downloaded installation file. It will open.
4. 4 Install qBitTorrent. Do the following, depending on the operating system of your computer:
   • Windows — Click Yes when prompted, then follow the instructions on the screen.
   • Mac — Drag the qBitTorrent icon to the shortcut to the Applications folder, then follow the instructions on the screen. You may need to allow third-party software to be installed first.
5. 5 Double click on the torrent file. Since during installation of qBitTorrent torrent files are associated with qBitTorrent, your torrent file will open in qBitTorrent.
   • On your Mac, click the torrent file, and then click File> Open With> qBitTorrent.

   Expert warning: only download torrent files from trusted websites or from people you know. If you are going to download a torrent file, make sure you have good antivirus and anti-spyware installed on your computer, such as Malwarebytes, AVG, or Avast. When the file is downloaded to your computer, scan it for malicious codes.

6. 6 Click on Agreewhen prompted. The "Save" window will open.
   • You need to click on the specified button only when you first open a torrent file in qBitTorrent.
7. 7 Select a folder to save files. Click the folder-shaped icon next to the Save In text box, select a folder, and click Select Folder. Files (movies, games, etc.) downloaded using torrent files will be saved in this folder.
   • On a Mac, click Select (instead of Select Folder).
8. 8 Click on OK. This button is at the bottom of the window.
9. 9 Browse the downloaded files. To do this, go to the folder for saving files that you specified - in it you will find subfolders with downloaded files; to view the file, double click on the corresponding subfolder.
   • The name of the subfolder will be the same as the name of the torrent file.

Method 2 of 2: On an Android device

1. 1 Download the torrent file. It will appear in the Downloads folder on your Android device.
2. 2 Download uTorrent. It is one of the most popular torrent clients available for Android. To download it:
   • Open Play Store .
   • Click on the search bar.
   • Enter utorrent.
   • Click uTorrent Torrent Downloader in the dropdown menu.
   • Click Install.
3. 3 Close the Play Store. To do this, press the Android Home button.
4. 4 Start the file manager. Its name depends on your device; typically, the file manager is called Files or File Manager and is located in the application bar.
5. 5 Select the storage medium for the files. Click on the medium (for example, "Storage"), which will save files (movies, games, etc.) downloaded using torrent files.
   • In some file managers (such as Samsung's Files app), you can skip this step.
6. 6 Tap a folder Downloads. You will find it in the folder list.
7. 7 Tap the downloaded torrent file. You will find it in your Downloads folder. The torrent file will open in uTorrent.
8. 8 Double tap Allow. This will provide file access and location information for uTorrent. The download of the files associated with the torrent file will begin.
9. 9 Wait for the download to complete. Then go to the next step.
10. 10 Open the folder with the downloaded file. Return to the Downloads folder in the file manager, and then tap the downloaded file (or folder) to open it.
    • The downloaded file may not open on your device (depending on the file type).

Tips

• We recommend distributing the downloaded file within the same time that it took to download it. To do this, do not delete the torrent file from the torrent client and do not turn off the computer.
