Learn how to turn off VoiceOver, which tells you what you are doing, in this article. To turn off this feature, press the Home button three times, or use the Settings app, or ask Siri to do so.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Using the Home button

1. 1 Quickly press the Home button three times. This will disable VoiceOver if the triple-press on the Home button is set to disable it.
   • This can be done from the lock screen.
   • When you hear “VoiceOver disabled” (or similar), the feature is disabled.
   • To turn on VoiceOver, double-click the Home button. You hear: “VoiceOver is on” (or something similar).
   • If triple-pressing the Home button is set to disable multiple features (such as VoiceOver, Assistive Touch, and so on), choose which feature you want to disable. If you press the Home button three times, VoiceOver will not turn off.
2. 2 Try to use by another method. If you don't have accessibility configured, triple-tapping the Home button won't do anything, so try another method.

Method 2 of 3: Using the Settings app

1. 1 Tap the iPhone Settings app to select it, then double-tap it to launch it. This gray gear-shaped icon is on the iPhone home screen.
2. 2 Click General to select this option and then double-click on it to open it. It's near the top of the Settings page.
   • If you're using a 4.7-inch iPhone, use three fingers to scroll down to General.
3. 3 Tap Accessibility to select that option, then double-tap it to open it. It's near the bottom of the screen.
   • If you're using a 4.7-inch iPhone, use three fingers to scroll down to the Accessibility option.
4. 4 Press VoiceOver to select that option, then double-tap it to open it. It's near the top of the screen.
5. 5 Click on the slider for VoiceOver to select it, and then double-click on it to move. You will hear a message: “VoiceOver is disabled” (or something similar).

Method 3 of 3: Using Siri

1. 1 Press and hold the Home button to activate Siri. It's a large, round button below the smartphone screen.
   • If you're using an iPhone 6 or later, you won't hear a beep when Siri starts up unless you're using headphones or a Bluetooth headset.
2. 2 Say "Turn off VoiceOver". You may have to wait a while for Siri to process your command. When Siri says, “Okay, I turned off VoiceOver” (or something similar), the function will be turned off.
   • To turn VoiceOver back on, activate Siri and say “Turn VoiceOver on”.
