You dyed your hair and found that the color came out much darker than you intended. Don't panic! You can apply vitamin C to your hair to make your hair lighter. This method is suitable for all hair types and does not damage the hair. Apply a mixture of vitamin C and shampoo to your hair and the hot brunette you see in the mirror disappears.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Crush Ascorbic Acid Tablets

  1. 1 Use white ascorbic acid (vitamin C) tablets for optimal results. You can easily find ascorbic acid (vitamin C) tablets at any pharmacy. Try to buy white pills - you shouldn't buy yellow or orange coated ascorbic acid tablets. You don't want the pigment from the dragee shell to color your hair.
  2. 2 Place 10-30 tablets in a Zip-lock plastic bag. If you have long hair, you will need 20-30 tablets, and if you have short hair, 10-15 tablets will be enough. Make sure the pill bag can be closed securely.
  3. 3 Crush the tablets with a rolling pin. Place the pill bag on a flat surface such as a table. Use a rolling pin to crush the tablets to a powder.
    • You can also put the tablets in the spice mill and grind them.

Part 2 of 3: Apply Vitamin C to Hair

  1. 1 Take a bowl and mix the crushed ascorbic acid with three to four tablespoons (45-60 ml) of shampoo. Use a dye-free cleansing shampoo. If you have long hair and grind a lot of ascorbic acid tablets, increase the amount of shampoo to five to six tablespoons (75–90 ml). Rub the crushed tablets and shampoo thoroughly with a spoon - you should get a thick paste that resembles glue in consistency.
  2. 2 Dampen hair with water and apply the resulting paste. Take a spray bottle, fill it with water and spray water on your hair until it is damp to the touch. Do not overdo it - it should not drip from the hair. Apply the prepared paste to the hair, spreading it with your fingers from roots to ends. Make sure all hair is covered with paste.
    • If you have very thick or long hair, it makes sense to divide it into separate sections to distribute the paste evenly over the strands. Divide your hair into 4-8 sections before applying ascorbic acid.
    • Spread the paste well so that each hair is evenly covered with the lightening agent.
  3. 3 Put on a shower cap and wait two hours (or even longer). During this time, the paste with vitamin C is absorbed into the hair.
    • If you want to speed up the effect of ascorbic acid on your hair, you can use a hairdresser's cap or heat your hair with a hair dryer.

Part 3 of 3: Rinse off the paste and dry your hair

  1. 1 Rinse off the paste with water for at least five minutes. Wash your hair under the tap or take a shower. Make sure to rinse all the paste off your hair to allow the ascorbic acid to remove excess dye and lighten your hair.
  2. 2 Apply a moisturizing conditioner to your hair (ascorbic acid makes your hair dry and frizzy). If you feel that your hair has become dry due to the effects of the paste, apply a moisturizing conditioner balm to your hair and massage it over the entire length of your hair. The balm will nourish and moisturize your hair.
    • Conditioning balm will help keep your hair healthy if it tends to frizz from the effects of the hairdryer and after washing.
  3. 3 Dry your hair. If you usually use a hairdryer after shampooing, use it to dry your hair after rinsing off the paste. This will help you immediately gauge how well the ascorbic acid has lightened your hair. If you prefer to dry your hair naturally, leave it loose for a few hours or even overnight.
    • If you decide to use a hair dryer, use special heat protection products to protect your hair from the negative effects of hot air.
  4. 4 Repeat the above steps if you want to lighten your dyed hair more. Vitamin C paste can be applied to your hair several times if you haven't achieved the desired result the first time. Ascorbic acid paste can be used three to four times in a row - it is quite safe for hair. Keep in mind, however, that sometimes vitamin C will dry out your hair and cause scalp irritation and dandruff. To avoid negative effects on hair and scalp, always use a moisturizing conditioner after the paste.
    • For more effective lightening, you can leave the paste on your hair for longer than two hours. However, remember that this can irritate your scalp, especially if you have sensitive skin.
