After you've spent hours (or even days!) Creating a brochure, your next step is to print it. There are many ways you can do this: print from your home computer, send the file to your local printer, or upload it to a website that provides online printing services.

Steps

  1. 1 Make sure the printer has enough ink. If you are printing brochures from your computer, make sure you have enough ink and paper. Booklets should be printed on paper that is heavier than normal printer paper.
  2. 2 Open the brochure file.
  3. 3 Go to the "File" tab, then "Print" and click on the button or the "Properties" tab. Set Quality / Speed options to Best for best ink coverage. The faster the print speed, the lower the print quality.
  4. 4 Make sure the page layout of the file you are printing is in Landscape mode. Also, set the print settings to the same mode.
  5. 5 In the print settings, find the option "Single-sided / Double-sided printing" and select the "Duplex" or "Double-sided" mode. This means your file will be printed on both sides of a sheet of paper. If you have this option, select the auto-flip duplex mode.
  6. 6 Click OK to return to the main print settings menu and click OK again to start printing the booklet. If you have an inkjet printer at home, you will have to manually flip the sheet of paper in order to continue printing the back of the brochure. If you have a professional printer, duplex printing does it for you.
  7. 7 Check the printed brochure to make sure it was printed correctly. Fold it if necessary, making sure that the text is positioned correctly (for example, that the text intended for the back of the brochure is actually on the back).
  8. 8 If the booklet has printed correctly, return to the main print settings menu and specify the number of booklets you need. You do not need to repeat steps 3 to 5, unless you close the file window before printing is complete.
  9. 9 If you decide you want your brochures to be printed professionally, call the printing shops to compare rates and lead times. Also, take a look at websites that provide printing services and compare their rates with those of your local printing shop. Online services can be cheaper as they may not have a surcharge, but if you need to print a brochure within 24 hours, you will have to contact your local printer.
  10. 10 When you find a suitable print shop, you will need to email them a copy of the brochure file. Be sure to ask which file format is required / preferred - QuarkXPress, PDF, JPEG, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Word, etc. Some printing shops only accept files in a specific format.
    • Instead of emailing the file, you can simply upload the brochure file to the website. Most printing sites will allow you to upload files that are much larger than your email will allow. Ask the ordering agent which method is better and follow the recommendations.

Tips

  • If you work with print service providers, you should get a trial copy, either as a PDF file or as a printout, depending on the time you have available. The test copy is a sample of what your final product will look like. PDF files may be sent to you within a day, while it may take several days to send you a printout. Check your trial copy carefully to make sure the color scheme works for you and that the design elements are in the right place. Also, proofread and, if necessary, proofread the text - once you approve the proof copy, you will be responsible for correcting any typos and color inconsistencies.
