Owning a domain name means you have a bit of digital space to create anything: a website, a blog, or even a family photo album. Domain names cost from 350 rubles ($ 10) to 1,300 rubles ($ 35), depending on the place of purchase and additional services, for example, web hosting. Buy a domain name by choosing the one you want and making sure it's available.

Steps

1. 1 Determine which domain name you want to buy. It should fit your business or project.
   • Be creative. A domain name is a digital address given to people who want to visit your site. It should be memorable and easily identifiable.
   • Come up with some fallbacks in case your first domain name is already taken (there are hundreds of millions of registered domain names).
2. 2 Select the domain zone in which you want to register the domain name. Typically, this is something like .com or .biz for individuals and companies, or .org for non-profit organizations and .edu for schools and educational institutions.
3. 3 Contact your domain registrar. The registrar is the company that will create a domain name for you and anchor it to an empty site (until you create your site).
   • Popular registrars include GoDaddy, DreamHost, Yahoo, Dotster, and Register.com.
   • Choose a registrar that offers additional useful services. You can choose a registrar that offers web hosting services or that has templates available for building a website.
4. 4 Enter your desired domain name. You will be notified if it is available. If not, try one of the fallback names or change the domain zone (that is, enter .net instead of .com).
5. 5 Select the period of time for which you want to register the domain name. The time frames typically range from one year to 10 years (depending on the registrar).
   • Please note the registration renewal procedure. Some registrars will automatically renew your domain name registration. Others require that the registration renewal procedure be initiated.
6. 6 Pay for your domain name. This can be done with a credit or debit card. Some registrars accept PayPal.
   • Expect to pay about 500 rubles ($ 15) per year for a domain name. You can get a name for free if you buy other services from a registrar.
7. 7 Synchronize your domain name with your name server if you already have web hosting.
   • Create your site in the same place where you bought your domain name (to make it easier and faster to create a site, especially if you don't have a web host).
