1. 1 Select a search engine. At the top of any page on your computer, type “search engines” into the search bar to access several different Internet sites that help you with your search. Popular search engines:

   • Blekko
   • Dogpile
   • DuckDuckGo
   • Google
   • Yahoo
2. 2 Press the enter key on your computer keyboard.
3. 3 Pick a few of the most prominent or significant keywords or phrases to describe your topic. Use synonyms.Enter the selected words in the search bar suggested by your chosen search engine.
   • As a rule, capital letters and punctuation are irrelevant.
   • Search engines usually ignore words like "and, in, this, etc."
4. 4 Press the enter key on your keyboard.
5. 5 Evaluate your results. Browse your list of web pages to find the information you need.
6. 6 Repeat all these steps if necessary.
   • Please select a different search engine.
   • Choose new keywords that More or less specific to your theme.

9. 9 It is a mistake to believe that your topic is more or less equally visible in all search engines, and therefore it does not matter which one you use. New search engines also sort pages by the rating that is assigned to them; it is complex, constantly changing, usually secret and different for each search engine. And while search engines tend to be "the same" for very popular web pages, less popular web pages may have different rankings and therefore multiple search engines need to be used.

Tips

• Put plus sign (+) in front of each word so that in search results each word can be seen "separately", for example: + author + grammar + punctuation.
• Put minus sign (-) before each word to "skip word", for example: meat-recipe for vegetarian food.
• Use quotesto see "consecutive words of a phrase", for example: "bouquets".
• While searching, check all sites that you like.
• Enter short questions such as "what time is it?"
