In the Harry Potter series by J. Rowling, Quidditch is the main magical sport. However, you don't need to have magical powers to play. There are many ways to play Quidditch, but the most commonly used rules are those of the International Quidditch Association (which can be found here: [1]). Previously, mostly Muggle Quidditch was played in colleges in the United States, but over the past few years, the number of teams has increased dramatically. Quidditch also spread beyond America and is now played on 5 continents.

Steps

  1. 1 Gather the required equipment and players (see the “What you need” item below).
  2. 2 Please note that all players are sitting on brooms. However, brooms can be a hindrance, so you don't need to use them.
  3. 3 Place the quaffle and 2 bludgers in the center of the field. Ideally, quaffles and bludgers should be slightly deflated to make them easier to throw and catch.
  4. 4 Start the game. Both teams start at the ends of the field and try to get hold of the Quaffle and Bludgers.
  5. 5 Follow your responsibilities, depending on which player you are:
    • Chasers try to score points by throwing a quaffle into one of the three hoop gates. One hit - 10 points.
    • Beaters try to hit other players with a bludger. If one of the players is hit by a bludger, the game is stopped and a free kick is awarded, i.e. (throw a quaffle, in the case of a chaser) and run back to the gate and touch it or, alternatively, sit down for 10 seconds.
    • The keepers protect the goal and prevent the chasers from scoring a goal. The keepers closest to the goal are protected from being hit by a bludger.
    • Seekers try to catch a snitch (a person) or take possession of an object attached to it - a sock or a flag, for example. You can come up with your own rules for catching the snitch. The most common way is to make a snitch a person who will run and hide within certain boundaries. The Seekers are looking for the Snitch and are trying to catch him. There are other methods, such as the 2005 method, in which the snitch is a tennis ball in a sock hanging from the shorts of the snitch player. Regardless of the method, the Seeker who catches the Snitch earns 30 points for the team, although in the book - 150. The creators of Quidditch for Muggles decided that 150 points was too much, so they reduced the importance of the Snitch.
    • The Snitch, usually a player, runs across the field (usually at the borders), trying to elude the Seekers.
    • The referees must enforce the rules and keep score.
    • Play! The essence of the game is to score the most points. The game will be over when the Seeker catches the Snitch.
  6. 6 Don't be afraid to change the rules. See tips below.

Tips

  • Alternatively, the snitch can be a small yellow ball (a tennis ball is perfect) that is hidden by the referee or bystander before the game starts.

Set boundaries and the strongers will start looking for the snitch.

  • Beaters can hit Bludgers in mid-air with a shortened hockey stick or short bat. You can also use regular hockey sticks to hit bludgers on the ground (golf balls are better in this case). The easiest way is to "spot" the players using a deceptive move.
  • It will be easier to play without brooms (but not so much fun).
  • You can play Quidditch on the water in the pool, the rules are almost the same. Have someone toss the snitch on a rope into the pool at regular intervals. You can even use fake snitch.
  • You can buy authentic brooms to make the game look more realistic.
  • The Quidditch community is very large, so check the IQA website to find teams near you.
  • One option is the Snitch Quarter. Find a quarter or other small coin. Have both teams look away and the referee throws the snitch into the grass or court while the players are not watching. Play while the Seekers are looking for the Snitch.
  • Remember that the Snitch Player is not a member of the team and is not tied to the rules. The Snitch can do whatever he wants to avoid being caught.

Warnings

  • A ball in the air can cause injury. If you play Quidditch it’s most likely for fun, so do not use forceful techniques.
  • Remember to drink water and exercise.
