Canasta, translated from Spanish - a basket. This is a game for two, three or four people. The game originated at the beginning of the 20th century in South America, presumably in Uruguay. In the 50s, the game penetrated into the United States, where it became popular, and then it came to Europe. This article sets out the rules of the game.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Basics

  1. 1 It is important to know the value of each card. To understand the scoring system, you need to know the value of each card.
    • Jokers - 50 points
    • 2 and Aces - 20 points
    • 8 - Kings - 10 points
    • 4 - 7 - 5 points
    • Black 3 - 5 points
      • The value of card combinations is determined by the rank of the card in the combination. What is a combination?
  2. 2 Collect combinations. A combination is at least 3 cards of the same rank. Your first hand must be at least 50 points. After the first combination, you can collect any combination, you can and less than 50 points.
    • Combinations in canasta are combinations of cards of the same rank - three or more (three nines, four queens, etc.), which can be supplemented by deuces and jokers, which are of particular importance in this game, and the number of deuces and jokers in the combination should not exceed half
    • Black threes are also allowed to be laid out on the table in the form of a combination of three or four cards.
    • A 7-card hand is canasta.
  3. 3 3 red Threes. These are bonus cards, each worth 100 points. Red threes do not participate in the game. If they fall into your hands, they should be exchanged for a card from the deck, and the three itself should be laid out on the table. At the end of the game, the red three is counted as follows: 100 plus points if you win and 100 points negative if you lose. If one pair of players has four red threes, the win (and loss) will be 1000 points.
    • You cannot make combinations of red triplets.
  4. 4 It is important to know when to exit the game. As soon as you get rid of all the cards, the game ends. If you are playing with a partner, consult with him, if the partner is against your withdrawal from the game, the game continues.
    • If you can get rid of cards in one move, you get 200 points instead of the usual 100.

Method 2 of 3: Game progress

  1. 1 Divide into pairs. The one who won in the previous round chooses a pair and appoints a leader. In general, if this is your first game - crash as you please.
  2. 2 Each player receives 11 cards. You will need 2 decks with jokers. Those cards that were not dealt to the participants of the game are placed in the center of the table. This is your bank.
  3. 3 Flip the top card of the bank deck. Place it next to it. This card forms another bank. So, players can draw cards from two banks. Taking a card from the second bank, the player must take all the cards that are under it.
    • During the game you will see the cards that you need. Consider whether it is worth taking a bunch of cards for one.
    • If the inverted card is a red three, Joker or two, then you cannot take cards from the second bank, it is "frozen".
  4. 4 The game goes clockwise, one by one. A move consists of the player drawing a card from one of the banks to make a combination.
    • As already mentioned, a combination consists of 3 or more cards of the same rank. There should not be more than 3 cards of jokers and twos. A 7-card hand is canasta.
    • Red threes cannot form a combination. Black threes can only make a combination by themselves.
    • Players play only with their own or partner's combination.
    • A player can take the discard pile instead of drawing a card from the discard pile only if he or she can use the pile's top card in a new or existing meld in that turn.
    • To prevent the previous player's move, you can throw a black three, two or Joker on the table. Then the player skips a move.
  5. 5 Each team must calculate the number of points. The first combination must be at least 50 points; during the game, the value of the first canasta increases.
    • If, according to the results, the team has 0 - 1,495 points, their minimum combination is worth 50 points, from 1,500 to 2.995 - 90, more than 3,000 - 120. If the team has a negative score, the minimum cost is reduced to 15 points.
    • If the player does not get to the minimum, he must take the cards and the minimum rises by 10 points.
  6. 6 The game continues until there are no cards in the banks or all players have left. When there is only one card left in the second bank, no one has the right to take it. ...
  7. 7 Count all the cards played. Each team receives points for the played combinations. Points are also awarded for 3 red triplets.
    • Canasta without deuces and Jokers - 500 points, with deuces and Jokers (mixed) - 300.
    • The player who made the combination in one move gets 200 points, the player who collected the canasta several moves - 100.
    • Each red three is worth 100 points. If a team has 4 red threes, they get 800 points. If a team has 3 red threes but no combinations, they are penalized 100 points for each triple.
    • Calculate from the total score the value of the cards remaining in your hand.
  8. 8 Have you scored 5,000 points? The first team to reach 5,000 points wins. If no one has such an account, the game is repeated.

Method 3 of 3: Strategy

  1. 1 Watch out for the cards that players fold. This will help you know when and how you can walk. During the game, you will notice what cards the enemy is collecting.
    • It is not always worth taking cards that are worth few points. Better to bury a larger card.
    • Talk to your opponents, provoke them. Once you know what card they are waiting for, you will have a chance to prevent their victory.
  2. 2 Hold deuces and Jokers... for a while. These cards are very valuable, but the very last thing you want is to get stuck with these cards in your hand. If you don't place these cards on the table, they will play against you.
    • If it seems to you that your opponent is about to come out (or the deck will run out on him), get rid of him. It is better to do what you can do now than to sit with good cards later in the game and lose.
  3. 3 Don't lay out the combinations right away. Of course, you will want to show everyone how many points you have, but this is not the best strategy. As soon as everyone knows your cards, it's worse for you. So shock.
    • You can use deuces and aces when other players start throwing their cards and you find what you need in them.
  4. 4 If you have one canasta, good. If you don't have any canastas, this is simply not an option. You must have a canasta before the game ends.

What do you need

  • 2-4 players
  • 2 decks of cards with Jokers (for some variations of the game you will need 3 decks)
  • Scoring paper and pen
