If you still store Xbox games, you can play many of them on the Xbox 360.You may need to download an update to do this; Also remember that not all Xbox games are supported by the Xbox 360.

Steps

1. 1 Install an official Xbox 360 hard drive (if not installed). Most Xbox 360 consoles have a hard drive, but not the S, Arcade, and Core 4GB models. A hard drive is needed to store the emulator and Xbox game data.
   • There is no emulator on third party hard drives. So buy an official hard drive.
   • Before installing the hard drive, use the included cable and CD to transfer data from your Xbox 360 to the hard drive. Then install the hard drive by removing the side panel of the console and plugging in the hard drive.
2. 2 Connect your Xbox 360 to the internet. Do this to download the required updates.
   • You can connect to Xbox Live from the System Preferences menu. If you don't have a free Xbox Live account, create one and then follow the onscreen instructions when you first connect to Live. Read this article to learn how to connect your Xbox 360 to the internet.
3. 3 Install available system updates from Xbox Live. This is necessary in order to then install the emulator, which you will need to run Xbox games.
   • The console will update automatically if connected to Xbox Live and updates are available.
   • If the console cannot be connected to the Internet, system updates are usually available on game discs. Buy one of the latest games to update your system.

4. 4 Insert your Xbox game disc into your Xbox 360. The game will automatically download and the Xbox logo will be displayed on the screen. Please be aware that not all Xbox games can be played on the Xbox 360. A complete list of Xbox games can be found here and here (compatible games highlighted in green).
5. 5 Update the game (if needed). Perhaps, when you insert the disc with the game, you will be prompted to update it. Some games need this.
   • Connect your console to the internet to update your game. If a message appears stating that the game is not compatible, but in the above list it is highlighted as compatible, check if the console is connected to the Internet.
6. 6 Start playing. When the game is updated, it will launch. The next time you launch the game, you do not need to download anything.

Troubleshooting

1. 1 Make sure the game is compatible with Xbox 360. Please be aware that not all Xbox games can be played on the Xbox 360. Therefore, see if a game is marked as compatible in the list linked above.
2. 2 See if the disc is scratched. If it's scratched a lot, the game won't start. If possible, insert the disc into another console to find the source of the problem (the disc or your console).
   • If the disc is scratched, polish it with toothpaste. Squeeze some of the paste onto the disc, then buff off the scratches in a straight motion from the center of the disc to the edges. Rinse off excess paste and wait for the disc to dry.
3. 3 Check your internet connection. Some games need to be updated. To do this, the console must be connected to Xbox Live through a Silver (free account) or Gold account.
4. 4 Make sure you have an official hard drive. An official hard drive is a drive manufactured by Microsoft; only such a disc has the emulator required to run Xbox games. If you purchased a supported hard drive or third-party hard drive, it may not have an emulator.
   • If you have an official hard drive, it might be bad. If the warranty period has not yet expired, replace the disk with a working one.
